Before<Before revision surgery (front)>After<After revision surgery (front)>Before<Before revision surgery (side)>After<After revision surgery (side)>About 7 years ago, in 2013, I had rhinoplasty at a local plastic surgery clinic without really knowing anything. It was done with silicone + ear cartilage, and the bridge was raised by 4 mm. Since I had no nasal bridge at all, I was happy and satisfied just to have one. But as time passed, my nose would sting in winter, the nasal dorsum would turn patchy and abnormally red when I cried or when it was cold.. and I started becoming sensitive whenever someone touched my nose, so one by one, things began to bother me. Also, because I liked exercising, I was concerned every time I did positions where my nose touched the floor.
Then I learned about contracture, a side effect of rhinoplasty, and looked into revision surgery with the thought that I should remove the silicone. I did not want to put silicone in again, so I looked into revision surgery with autologous dermis, and after many reviews and a thorough consultation, I made up my mind and had the revision surgery.
What I found out during surgery was that 5.5 mm of silicone had been inserted, there was scar tissue inside, and septal cartilage had been used, which I had not known about. At each step of the surgery, the director and nurses explained things in detail, so I was able to hear directly about the problems with my nose and even see the silicone that had been removed, which greatly eased my anxiety about revision surgery. Also, I liked that not only the surgery but also the postoperative care was extremely thorough. At my previous hospital, I visited after surgery to have the stitches removed and that was it, so I had thought that was normal, but it was not.
I had this surgery while accepting that I might regret it to some degree, since autologous dermis makes height difficult to predict and the shape comes out according to your original nose base. But after getting through this winter, I am so satisfied that I feel I worried for nothing. The stinging and redness of my nose are gone, and I am much more satisfied with the height than when I had silicone. I understand the reviews saying that time goes by quickly after surgery. It feels like I just had the surgery the other day, but I am already entering my 4th month post-op. The scar on my buttocks still feels a bit sore and itchy, but not enough to bother me much. It may be absorbed more after 6 months or 1 year, but now I no longer need to worry about contracture from silicone and can exercise as much as I want, so I plan to live satisfied.
