My first orthodontic treatment was when I was young because of a protruding mouth. I had a total of four teeth extracted behind the canines, and the treatment took 2 and a half to 3 years. I was very satisfied. It was clearly noticeable in photos too. Before orthodontic treatment, from the side, my nose and lips were at the same position, but now my mouth has gone neatly inward. The second orthodontic treatment was completely for treatment purposes. When COVID was at its worst, the wire attached inside after protruding mouth correction came off, and the retainer I wore while sleeping broke. On top of that, I was abroad, so visiting a dentist was even harder. At some point, I became unable to chew food with my front teeth (for noodles, I had to press them against my front teeth with my tongue and cut them that way), so I visited a dentist and they said it was an open bite. At the time, because I visited late due to COVID, only about one or two of the very back molars were barely touching, so I started Invisalign treatment right away. After about a year and a half of orthodontic treatment, now I can chew food with my front teeth and bite off noodles too. Of course, I can’t say it was only because of the retainer issue, but having an open bite was much more stressful than having a protruding mouth, so I really wear my retainer every single day when I sleep.
