I’m just going to write a diary-like record! I had cheekbone reduction, square jaw surgery, and chin advancement
I’d wanted facial contouring for a few years, so I went for consultations, but I was turned away because I was young and still had baby fat (I had made reservations at 3 places then, but two told me to come back later, so I didn’t even go to one.) After that, about a month ago I thought I absolutely had to do it and that now was the time, so I searched online, went for a consultation at just one place, and immediately put down a deposit for 2 weeks later (at that time, this was the only place I was drawn to because of reviews and so on) Then while talking with someone I know, I got a recommendation for another place, went for another consultation, put down a deposit there instead, and booked the same date, 2 weeks later.. The money was a waste, but I liked that they said they operate according to proportions, I liked the consultation too, and after hearing that famous people had done it there, I just decided to do it there. Less than a month after deciding to get surgery, everything moved so fast..
- Surgery day D-D My surgery was scheduled for 11, so I went to the hospital by 10. I changed clothes, took photos, heard the precautions and consent form explanations, signed, met the director, did the design, went to the bathroom, and entered the operating room around 11.
The anesthesiology director came, asked various things, and while preparing for surgery said they would now start anesthesia; as soon as the medication went in, I went straight to dreamland. (I’ve had sedation anesthesia many times, but this was my first general anesthesia, so I wasn’t worried at all, then right before falling asleep I got a little scared. Afraid I might not wake up + afraid it would hurt when I woke up)
It ended around 3, and I lay in the recovery room inside the operating room, then moved to the inpatient room around 4. I wasn’t nauseous, my throat didn’t really hurt, my face wasn’t very swollen, and there wasn’t much pain either, so I felt relieved. After about 2 hours only my jaw hurt, and after 4-5 hours I felt a bit of tingling pain in the cheekbones too. Sensation in my lips almost all came back, and only the lower gums felt anesthetized. In reviews, people said the pain makes you think, why did I do this? But it wasn’t like that at all, so even though I had all 3 facial contouring procedures, it felt like maybe I hadn’t had cheekbone surgery. The pain was almost only in the jaw. The area where the square jaw was cut kept feeling tingly.
It ended at 3, so I could drink water at 9, and they said I could sleep at 12 and told me not to sleep. But I slept here and there for about 10-30 minutes each time. I couldn’t sleep through.. But my throat wasn’t dry and I wasn’t hungry, so I thought that was a relief.
Almost once an hour, a nurse came to drain blood from the blood drain and check my medication, and I endured it by sleeping a little, using my phone, and then slept at 12. (For reference, getting the hemostatic agent was more painful than the surgery.)
- D+1 I woke up at 4, fell asleep again, repeated that, and around 7:30 I felt sick and thought I might throw up. The nurse came and gave me medicine to settle my stomach, and said it could be because my stomach was empty. At 9 they gave me New Care, and I worked hard to eat it with a syringe. (It tasted good) After eating my last meal before 11 the day before surgery and drinking a little water at 1, it was my first intake in almost 36 hours.
After eating and waiting, I met the director a little after 10 and they removed the blood drain. I changed clothes and was discharged right away, then went home.
There wasn’t much change in swelling, and after going home I slept, had New Care, just lay down, then in the evening had New Care, took medicine, gargled, and was lying down when phlegm came up badly, so I tried to cough it out and ended up vomiting.. After vomiting and waiting a bit, I looked at my face and felt like the swelling had gone down a little..
More than pain, the uncomfortable feeling and not being able to sleep properly are so hard. I can’t eat, but the algorithm keeps showing me food, so it’s hard.
- D+2 When I woke up, I kept thinking, why is it still only day 2? Time goes by so slowly. Because I can’t eat or sleep.. The jaw pain is almost all gone, and the cheekbones feel a little anesthetized when I touch them.
I still can’t open my mouth and can only eat liquids, but I do feel more comfortable than yesterday. They say swelling is worst on days 2-3, but I’m not swollen, just the same.. Since coming home, I’ve done cold compresses twice so far.
All day I had 2 packs of New Care, and in the evening I wanted seolleongtang, so I told my dad to order it and stole one cup of beef bone broth. I was going crazy wanting to mix rice into it..
There’s no pain, but I’m curious how everyone puts anything inside their mouth after only 3 days.. My jaw is also taped, so even if I want to open my mouth, it won’t open at all. And the blood that goes back behind my nose and comes out is hard to deal with.
When I touched it, I did feel like above the swelling it’s slimmer and smoother, but right now I can’t tell if my face got smaller! I hope one week passes quickly..
