Beforebeforebeforeafterafter It has now been 6 months since I had double-jaw surgery, and I want to share my experience in the hope that it will be of even a little help to those considering surgery.
Before surgery, I had discomfort with everyday eating and speaking due to malocclusion and temporomandibular joint pain. In particular, because I also had a complex about my appearance due to jaw asymmetry and protrusion, I thought double-jaw surgery could be an important way to improve my life. However, I had many concerns before making the decision because of fear about the surgery and worries about the recovery period. Last year in 2024, in July and October, I had double-jaw surgery and three types of facial contouring surgery (cheekbones, square jaw, and chin) at an oral surgery clinic!
Right after surgery, as expected, there was quite a lot of swelling and pain, and it was not easy to speak or eat. In the early stage, I mainly ate soft foods such as porridge and focused on recovery. But thanks to the clinic’s systematic postoperative care and my own efforts, my condition improved quickly as time went by.
From the 3-month mark, the swelling had gone down a lot and looked natural, and I had recovered to the point where there was no major discomfort in daily life. And now that 6 months have passed, compared with my condition before surgery, I feel like I am living a completely different life.
First, I feel the biggest change in terms of health. As the malocclusion was resolved, chewing food became much easier, and the temporomandibular joint pain completely disappeared. My digestive issues also improved, so my overall physical condition got better.
Also, because of the external changes, I received a lot of positive feedback from people around me. As the facial asymmetry improved and the jawline became more defined, I often heard that my impression had become softer and more refined. These changes gave me a lot of confidence and led to psychological stability and satisfaction.
Now I can eat hard foods without difficulty, and in every aspect, including exercise, going out, and social life, I have fully returned to my previous everyday routine. There were difficulties in the early stage after surgery, but when I think about the satisfying results now, I believe the whole process was well worth it.
What I want to say to those considering double-jaw surgery is that there is definitely discomfort during the initial recovery process, but in the long term, it can be a choice that greatly improves health and quality of life. I also had worries and fears, but looking at the results now, I am certain that deciding to have the surgery was truly a good choice.
I hope this review gives a little help or courage to those considering surgery. Thank you.
