Before Before Before After After My usual concerns were a long face, asymmetry, a slight protruding lower jaw, and indigestion. Honestly, I originally didn’t really know, but I found out through teasing from a few immature male students during school and through orthodontic treatment and detailed examinations.
I had surgery at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Hospital, and the reasons I chose the hospital were that the price was reasonable and because of the various interview videos of Dr. Lee Seok-jae on YouTube. What I felt after the consultation was that it seemed professional, and somehow it felt faithful to the basics without major exaggeration, more than just profit-seeking. During the consultation with the consultant, I also felt that they paid attention to details. Seeing the displayed appointment certificates and awards of the director made me trust them more. Anyway, I carefully looked into the doctor’s background, character, and skills. If you go to the Y website and sign up, they have real reviews and before-and-after photos uploaded in an easy-to-view way, so I looked to see whether there were patients with cases most similar to mine. If I had to pick one thing that changed after surgery.. of course, confidence and the chewing sensation when eating!!
I used to be sensitive about angles when taking photos, but now I don’t care and just smile happily. And when I feel food being finely broken down in my mouth even though it feels like I barely chewed a few times, I think, “Ah, because I’d never felt this in my whole life, I didn’t even know that was the problem?”
More than anything, it’s amazing to me and I’m so satisfied that my upper teeth completely cover my lower teeth and the midline matches too haha
<Recovery process> Very early stage (~week 2): Compared to other people, nasal congestion lasted about 10 days for me. There can be individual differences with any surgery, so I think it would be good to keep this in mind. At this time, even showering alone required a lot of caution, so I was also scared.
Early stage (2 weeks~1 month): Although I still couldn’t chew and eat, I was so relieved that I could at least remove the wafer when brushing my teeth and clean it. This is the period when the swelling gradually goes down and you can see the bruising fading too!
When removing the stitches, it’s a tolerable stinging pain, but the center of the lip stings a bit more.. If you prepare yourself mentally, I think you’ll writhe a little lessㅠㅠ It’s still a time when pronunciation is very slurred, so you need to work hard on mouth exercises and warm compresses.
Middle stage (week 5-week 11): The bones are gradually fusing, though not completely yet! Around week 5, you can gently try eating soft porridge (not completely blended, with a few grains of rice in it). Still, from this point on, it gradually becomes more manageable haha
And as time passes, more family members can understand my pronunciation hahaha Coughing, spitting out phlegm, and blowing my nose became possible (they said it was possible from 1 month, but I was cautious)
The types of food I can eat increase day by day haha
VCurrent point: I still can’t hold chicken and tear into it (because I’m also undergoing orthodontic treatment and the bones haven’t become completely solid yet),
but I can eat most meats, pork cutlet, and the pickled radish in gimbap haha
I’m happy. I even wonder why I didn’t do it sooner hahaha I do regret that I should’ve done it earlier, even if it meant going to college a year later, but I’m glad I did it even now, and I was grateful to the consultant and all the doctors who safely completed the surgery and continued to care about me.
After surgery, there’s a bathroom right next to the care room, and nurses are present 24 hours a day. There’s also a ding-dong bell, so you can feel reassured~
That’s all. Everyone, stay healthy in body and mind!
