Because my cheekbones made me look way too intense from every angle, I wanted them gone altogether, so I ended up getting zygoma reduction surgery at the standard of facial contouring. There was someone in the reviews whose before photo looked exactly like me, and their result was exactly the style I wanted. The consultation price was the same, so I booked the surgery right away.
It’s been a month now, and after the stitches were removed at the 2-week mark, I went about daily life as usual, so there hasn’t been much difference. The first day to the first week of recovery was the hardest.
Day 1 On the day of surgery, I was so dizzy and sleepy I felt like I was going to die. I hate being cold because of the anesthesia, but they turned the electric blanket all the way up, so I think I was much less exhausted. It was the outskirts of Gyeonggi, but I went home alone. On the way back too, I kept getting sleepy, dozing off, waking up every hour, and repeating that.
Day 2 Being able to drink water felt like a relief, but my throat hurt so much from the anesthesia that it was hard. The day before, they told me to breathe a lot to let the anesthesia gas out, but I kept falling asleep and couldn’t do it, so on Day 2 I made sure to breathe hard. I ate a little yogurt and a little Twosome Place ice cream, and after a 30-minute walk the heat seemed to come up, so I took my medicine and rested.
Day 3 I couldn’t sleep well, my stomach felt so bloated, and my face was so swollen that my lips were lifted? It was very swollen. I only ate ice cream, and since they say swelling is the worst on Day 3, I tried not to think about it and spent the day quickly watching YouTube.
Day 4 My period started, and my lower back hurt so much that I couldn’t sleep while sitting up ㅜㅜ I think I barely slept for 2 or 3 hours. I spent the day struggling, eating Twosome Place ice cream, taking medicine, and dozing off for a bit.
Day 5 I still couldn’t sleep, so I thought I at least had to eat well, so I soaked bread and ate a lot, took my medicine, went for a walk, and as the afternoon went on, the swelling moved down toward my jaw and yellow bruising appeared.
Day 6 I think I only ate bread and went for a walk because I felt so bad.
Day 7 While removing the stitches from my ear, the staff member said I still had a lot of swelling and gave me laser treatment for a long time. Strangely enough, the tight, full feeling inside my mouth loosened up, and I felt so refreshed. I had been in silent mode because of the tight, stuffed feeling in my cheeks, but once I started talking I felt like I could live again. My pronunciation was still clumsy.
From week 1 on, I ate porridge and walked for 2 hours at a time. From week 2, after the stitches inside my mouth were removed, I ate soft food. From week 3, I could eat almost normal meals, and on days when I laughed a lot or talked a lot, there was a feeling of tightness. Around this time, I tend to grind my teeth, so I asked whether that was causing the sound, and they told me to contact them even late at night without worrying, and even asked about my progress the next day, so I don’t think I had anything particularly anxiety-inducing during recovery. Now, at one month, there’s still swelling left in my cheeks, like about 2 to 3 kg of added cheek fat.
I’m still not sure about the surgical outcome because I’m the type who swells a lot, but the space under my glasses has become about three times larger, and the volume that brushes against my hand when I wash my face has decreased enough to be shocking!!! I’m so happy ㅠ I wish the swelling would go down this smoothly and quickly!!
