It’s actually been over a year since I developed the side effect of a contracted nose. During that time, I took selfies and lots of photos, but since it’s my own nose that I see every day, I lived without even realizing this was a side effect. But now it looks strange to anyone, and from the side it seems like the angle goes over 110 degrees, like a cut-off nose, so I went to a hospital... and they said it was a side effect... asked why I came only now... and said it was very severe...
I got angry for a moment. How is a patient supposed to know this is a side effect? I did think it looked strange, but people say you shouldn’t touch the nose carelessly again, so I just thought I should live with it even if it was a little crooked. How was I supposed to know that in a case like this I should have gone to the hospital right away in the early stage? If I go to an ENT clinic and ask because my nose looks strange, they say that if I don’t have any discomfort breathing, they recommend just living with it. They say revision surgery shouldn’t be done carelessly. I endured it after hearing things like that, and when it kept feeling strange, I finally came to the hospital.. but they said I came extremely late, so it would be an extremely difficult surgery.
I’m posting reviews of the hospitals where I had consultations.
1. *** I went after receiving a consultation at *** ENT, where the doctor said he only does revision surgery with silicone, but in this case it would probably cause side effects and inflammation again, so he recommended that I go to another hospital that uses costal cartilage. They said 70% of their surgeries are for contracted noses. They said they do about 3 surgeries a day. There are two directors who do noses; one seems to specialize in reconstruction, and the other in contracted noses. As soon as he saw my nose, he seemed to know the estimate and explained everything smoothly without hesitation. He wasn’t extremely friendly, but I slightly felt that maybe his skills would be “friendly.” The cost seemed almost like a fixed price.
2. *** It’s a large hospital and very well known, so I went just to get a consultation. There were 2 doctors who do revision surgery; one was the chief director, and the other was a female director who had been at ***. They explained things in great detail. They even held and stretched their own nose while explaining. They recommended autologous dermis between autologous costal cartilage and autologous dermis, but after watching my reaction, they said I seemed to also have some desire for a higher nasal bridge and seemed to want costal cartilage, so I received an estimate for that. Maybe because of COVID, there weren’t many patients, so the price didn’t seem extremely expensive.
So far I’ve been to two places, and from now on I plan to meet only doctors who specialize in contracted noses. If you know any more information, it would be great if you could share it.
