Before-before-after-after-after I started becoming conscious of my chin when I was in middle school. When I talked to someone, if their gaze shifted down a little, it felt like they were looking at my chin, and if they stared at my face, I felt like they would think my chin protruded... lol Because I hated my face so much, I became sensitive about being photographed... I realized, “So this is what a complex is,” and tried various things to resolve it. I even tried orthodontic treatment... I think it was only after I became a high school student that I realized the problem was my bones. After that, I got through each day with just one thought: once I became an adult, I would get surgery.
After becoming an adult, since it was a major surgery, I spent a lot of time looking for information. Then I found Y Oral Surgery, and since they disclose the surgery CCTV, the director had very long experience, and they only operate on one person a day, I thought it seemed fairly safe. When I went for a consultation, I liked that I could consult with the director right away that same day, and I actually liked that Director Lee Seok-jae was very... lol honest. So I booked double jaw surgery, cheekbone reduction, square jaw reduction, and chin surgery that same day.
<The day before surgery> Since I live outside Seoul, I had to leave early in the morning, so I went to bed early. For my last supper, I ate kimchi udon... haha If anyone is about to have surgery, please eat lots of delicious food! The hospital prepared most of the supplies for me (humidifier, tissues, paper cups, etc.), so I brought a sauce bottle, cotton swabs (they were very useful), and sleeping socks in case I got cold.
<Day of surgery> After arriving at the hospital, I received explanations from the consultant and the director, then headed to the operating room. I was nervous, but honestly, I was more excited. I was so thrilled that I could finally be free from my complex. While I was lying on the operating table, the anesthesiologist warmly encouraged me, saying that once I woke up, everything would be finished well, and I was gratefulㅠ Then when I really opened my eyes, the surgery was over, and I felt kind of dazed and nauseous. I think I felt nauseous because of the anesthetic gas. After hearing the nurse’s explanation and focusing on breathing, the director came and told me the surgery went well and that today would be hard, so I felt relieved. I was hospitalized alone without a guardian, and I was truly grateful that the nurse cared for me and checked my condition throughout the nightㅠ
<Day 1> I felt much better than yesterday. I had a slight headache and my throat hurtㅠ Both sides of my nose were blocked, so breathing was the hardest part. In the morning, the nurse removed the urinary catheter, but for me it did not hurt much. Then they said I could drink water, so I drank little by little. Around 10 o’clock, they removed the blood drain tube. It did not hurt, but... it was a somewhat unpleasant experience lol Still, it only lasts a moment, so it is tolerable! Once the blood drain tube is removed, you can drink New Care, and it suited my taste better than I expected, so I drank it well. Eating was still a bit uncomfortable, so I had small amounts frequently. Whenever I had time, I walked around, and I kept wearing the compression band and applying ice packs every hour.
<Day 2> It was discharge day, and in the morning I was a bit scaredㅠ I wondered if I could take care of myself alone without the nurses... But once it was actually time to be discharged, I got excited. I guess home really is the best lol The director checked my condition, checked my wafer occlusion, I got my medication, and went to my studio apartment. I drank New Care diligently and took my medicine diligently too. Since it was still a little hard to open my mouth and swallow anything, taking medicine was a bit difficultㅠ My nose was still blocked, and the consultant told me not to use cotton swabs too much, but I used them a lot lol... I still slept a bit restlessly.
<Day 3> They said swelling would get severe from this point, and it really did swell. For me, it actually seemed to swell more in the evening, so I walked around the house in circles for a bit. When I used ice packs too, it felt like it calmed down a little? I had no jaw pain at all, but nasal congestion was the unexpected problem. I kept thinking endlessly that I would feel alive if only my nose opened upㅠ That day too, I only drank New Care.
<Day 4> I slept the best since surgery. I think I slept for about 4 hours without waking up. It felt silly, but I was happy about it lol I felt that my body was gradually getting better. From this day, my nose intermittently opened and blocked again. I only drank New Care that day too, and the swelling was at its peak lol My face was swollen tight and felt heavy. It did not hurt. Oh, but maybe the bruising had moved down, because my neck area was yellowish. And my chin was tucked in... so even with the swelling, I liked it.
<Day 5> My body felt much better, so I went out for a walk. After walking for about two hours and coming back, my face looked a little slimmer. It would swell again by evening though lol I thought, “So this is what it will look like when the swelling goes down.” I am very timid, so that day too, I only drank New Care and ate some Excellent ice cream. Maybe because it was the first food in a while that was not New Care, it tasted so good that I ate three lol I think I started warm compresses from this day. Since the warmth touching my face felt relaxing and nice, I did it pretty often.
<Day 6> People call it the magical one week, and maybe that really is true, because my nose opened up a lot. There was still some mucus when I breathed, but I felt grateful even for that. Until yesterday, I couldn’t think about anything else all day, but from this day, I could think about other things and focus on YouTube, so I felt like my body had improved a lot. My physical condition was the best it had been since surgery, but I had yellow bruising under my eyes, so I looked really sick lol It was kind of funny. The swelling seemed to have gone down a tiny bit. I only drank New Care that day too, but maybe because my body was feeling more livable, I kept getting hungry. I desperately hoped that at tomorrow’s outpatient visit, I would be allowed to remove and reattach the wafer lol
<Week 1 - outpatient visit> The stitches around the cheekbone area did not hurt at all. They said I could remove the wafer when eating from this day, so as soon as I got back to my studio apartment, I cooked and ate Jjapaghetti. It was so deliciousㅠ Even though I only put in half the seasoning packet, it was delicious enough to make me tear up. While eating, since I had removed the wafer, I video-called my parents. My pronunciation was a bit slurred, but conversation went well. Oh, I could brush my teeth starting that day, and after brushing my teeth and even my tongue, I felt like I could really live now. Since my nose opened up, I could sleep pretty well too... Now I think I just need the swelling to go down haha
<Week 2 - outpatient visit> I had heard that intraoral stitches hurt a lotㅠ so I was extremely nervous, but removing the stitches did not hurt. Opening my mouth and having it pressed was a bit painful. Still, it does not take long, so I do not think there is any need to worry too much. After the intraoral stitches were removed, making facial expressions and talking definitely became much more comfortable. The swelling has gone down quite a bit too, but there is still swelling that looks like I’m holding candy in my mouth lol As for food, I’m eating very well, mainly soft foods. If anything, using recovery as an excuse, I feel like I’m eating lots of things I usually hold back on, like cake and bread...
<Week 3> The swelling has gone down a lot. I just look like a slightly chubbier version of myself. It is fascinating that my chin is tucked in, so I keep looking in the mirror... lol Now there is nothing difficult, so I lived as usual. That day I ate with a friend, and my friend said my face looked smaller, and although it was still swollen, my chin looked really slim... I almost cried. I thought, “So I get to hear words like that too.” Other than not being able to open my mouth wide, there is nothing uncomfortable. I ate all kinds of food without avoiding anything! I could even eat beef~
<Week 4 - orthodontic treatment started> I got braces attached. The feeling of my teeth being tightened was... more painful than I expected lol Still, I endured double jaw surgery, so how could I not endure this one thing~~ I’m trying to bear it while thinking that. Honestly, to my eyes, I wonder if the swelling has all gone down at this point? There is no disruption to daily life at all... I’m going to slowly start meeting people now. Right after surgery, it was really hard, but... I absolutely have no regrets!!
