After graduating from university, I prepared for a major exam and failed. Since it’s an exam held once a year, I decided to retake it, and because the exam is around the end of the year, I thought this was the time and had surgery in February.
I like idols from a certain company, and I had heard that idols from that company had been getting plastic surgery at that hospital for a long time, (not sure if it’s true or not. And I don’t know if it’s still true.) I heard it when I was in middle school, but remembered it 10 years later and went to that hospital.
I looked around about three places, but in the end I did it at that hospital. People say you should do it at the hospital you feel drawn to, and I think that’s true.
The surgery didn’t hurt at all. Laser hair removal hurts more. When I was waking up from anesthesia, the woozy feeling was honestly kind of nice. I thought, so this is why people do anesthesia illegally... and paradoxically resolved that I should absolutely never touch illegal drugs or narcotics...
I’ll move past the chatter.
From the day of surgery to one week, it’s uncomfortable. You can’t wash your eyes or wash your face, but whatever.
Until about one month, you can feel the swelling going down every day. So each day feels satisfying.
The problem is that after one month the major swelling goes down, but the residual swelling is really painful. You look ugly. Especially with the face, the face changes depending on whether you add a little or a lot of volume with fillers, and the residual swelling from double eyelid surgery gives volume in a very ugly way. I’m very impatient, so at 2 months, I held onto my mom and cried, regretting it and saying I shouldn’t have done it. (Even though no one threatened me to do it.) I studied while feeling that depressed,
and then, unbelievably, right when I reached 3 months, I looked pretty. I was very satisfied with my eyes. I went around taking tons of pictures. So I hope people getting double eyelid surgery will hold out through the difficult 3 months. (Incision, revision surgery, and constitution can make it take longer.)
And at 6 months, it goes down even more. When I happened to look at photos from 3 months, now that it’s been 4 years, I can see residual swelling even then. But it doesn’t matter. That level of residual swelling looked pretty.
After about 6 months to 1 year, it felt like the double eyelids I know.
After that, while exercising a lot and dieting, fat came off my body, my facial lines became prettier (after this, I also stopped getting lifting procedures), my body became prettier, I passed the exam, got a job, focused on my life, and my self-esteem rose in many ways. What’s interesting is that my face doesn’t take up a big part of what makes up my self-esteem. After surgery and after the swelling went down, I definitely felt that people of the opposite sex liked me more than before, but that didn’t satisfy me that much.
What satisfied me most about the surgery was simply that when I looked in the mirror, I looked good to myself, it made dressing up fun, and I looked lovable. That was the best part. I think people also liked that side of me.
Oh, and people are less interested than you’d think in whether someone had plastic surgery lol I’ve felt this over many years too.
1. Do it at a hospital that gives you the right feeling. 2. During the difficult 3 months, just endure it. Even if the final result were going to look like Cha Eun-woo, for those 3 months you will look ugly to yourself. 3. Plastic surgery alone does not change your life. However, I think it plays a big role in helping you see yourself as lovable.
This is my 4-year review. Of course, I’m looking into revision surgery because an overlapping crease formed on one side where I had buried-suture double eyelid surgery, but I think the second surgery will just pass by calmly.
