I think I had full orthodontic treatment for about 3 years. My tooth alignment wasn’t bad, but the angle made my mouth protrude. At first I did non-extraction treatment for 1-2 years, but it didn’t seem to have the effect of moving my mouth inward, so I had extractions. I had screws placed, wore elastics, and spent a long time with many appliances, along with discomfort and sacrifice.
My mouth moved in a lot!! But my jaw itself is slightly protrusive, and that wasn’t easy to fix with orthodontic treatment. I’m really satisfied with the orthodontics! However, I do think there are parts that don’t improve in combination with the facial bone structure.
Personally, because I have a deep bite, the upper retainer kept coming off, so I had to remove it sooner than expected. It has now been over 5 years.
** Downsides afterward: the extraction spaces reopening, itchy gums after childbirth.. a squeaky feeling like the teeth are moving. Gum recession. Food gets stuck in the opened spaces, so I end up chewing only on the opposite side, causing asymmetry in the jaw muscles.
I don’t regret it and I’m satisfied appearance-wise! But I think the discomfort is something I have to keep enduring. The dental clinic often texts me to come in.. but with COVID.. childbirth.. wow.. it’s been quite a while since I went. Since I’ve thought of it, I should go… haha
