BeforeBeforeBeforeAfterAfterHello, This is my 12-month review after double-jaw surgery + 2 types of facial contouring (square jaw and chin) at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. It’s finally my 1-year review! Right after surgery, I often thought, “After about a year, it’ll probably look natural.. When will a year ever pass..” so sometimes I can hardly believe that a year has gone by this quickly. Looking at it after a year, I think the swelling has completely gone down. (It’s just that my face gained fat because I’ve been eating too well^^) I thought I was especially slow to deswell compared with others, but even if there is swelling that goes down late, there is no swelling that never goes down. Time really is the medicine. After one year, it goes down for everyone. Next Saturday, I’m scheduled to have pin removal surgery. I saw on YouTube that if you don’t remove the pins, when you need an MRI, the electromagnetic waves from the MRI can react with the metal pins and be dangerous. They said it’s good to remove the pins within 2 years at the latest, so I booked pin removal a little over a year after surgery (next Saturday). I really hate the thought of my face swelling up for another 2 weeks and only drinking beverages, but because Director Lee Seok-jae at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery did the main surgery in a way I’m truly satisfied with, I’m not worried at all about the pin removal surgery. (I’m living while almost forgetting that there is a pin removal surgery..) Before surgery, my philtrum was short, so it was hard to bring my upper and lower lips together (if I forced them together by puckering, I would get an orange-peel chin and both corners of my mouth would droop, making me look sulky), and I had a long chin/long lower face. But honestly, there was no inconvenience in daily life. In my friend’s case, because of malocclusion, food would spill easily when eating and pronunciation was poor, so they had mandibular surgery at another hospital. Compared with that, I didn’t even have malocclusion, so in reality I had cosmetic surgery for aesthetic purposes, not treatment. So if you ask, “Did you become prettier?” the answer is that I didn’t become prettier. Before and after surgery, I have never once in my life thought my face was pretty (seriously). But if you ask, “Are you satisfied?” I’m 100% satisfied. That’s because this surgery was not something I received to become prettier, but to improve only the parts I truly considered complexes, and through surgery those parts were perfectly improved. Before surgery, I endlessly wondered, “If I get surgery, will I really get the face shape I want?” But it really happened. I’m very satisfied. I’ll wrap up my 12-month review now. Reading the reviews I wrote at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months brings back the worries I had then, the things I was curious about, and the proud feeling that even though it was hard, I hung in there(?). When time passes and I read the review I wrote at 12 months, I’ll probably feel the same way I do now. “I’m glad the surgery went well, but it was a hard time. I’ll never have surgery again!” Thoughts like that.^^ I hope my modest review helps even a little those who are debating whether to get surgery and those who are enduring a difficult time after surgery. Lastly, I want to thank the nurses who guided me with warmth and kindness throughout the year. He performed the surgery with maximum safety, reassuring a scared person like me, and with surgery that naturally improved my complexes, he changed my life before and after surgery.
