I had open surgery at the same hospital where I originally had it done, and the removal cost was only the anesthesia fee. I think the surgery took about an hour. Right up until I entered the operating room, I was so conflicted and scared.
First of all, my original nose was a hump nose with a slightly drooping tip. So 10 months ago, I had the hump shaved, osteotomy, and tip surgery using a septal support strut and septal cartilage. I had only wanted a slight correction, but my nose ended up looking shorter and blunter than before. On top of that, after the hump reduction and osteotomy, the bridge looked lower, and my nose became too small and round, so I was really shocked. I was told it would come down with time, so I waited until 10 months, but nothing changed. Also, the biggest side effect was that the area where the septal cartilage was added narrowed my airway, making it hard to breathe. Even in the area without added cartilage, when I lay down to sleep, my breathing felt blocked, and it also felt heavy, with a sense of weight whenever I lowered my head, so the sensation was unpleasant. Because the nasal congestion was so distressing, I went to ENT clinics too. They said my inferior turbinates (nasal mucous membrane inside the nose) were larger than other people's, but not enough to block my breathing, and they seemed puzzled. I went to three places, and it almost felt like they were discouraging inferior turbinate resection... telling me to think about it more. So I had put that on hold. Because the side effect of radiofrequency inferior turbinate reduction is empty nose syndrome. The aftereffects of empty nose syndrome are truly frightening, to the point that they can make people think about suicide... So I couldn't rush into it. I decided on removal because I thought I should first remove at least the added septal cartilage and make things a little more comfortable, and if it was still uncomfortable, then I would consider inferior turbinate resection.
If I had at least liked the shape, I might have just lived with getting inferior turbinate resection.... Anyway.
The surgery ended an hour ago, and I'm on my way home by taxi, and I can breathe so well. Even though there must be swelling, there is no heavy feeling. I don't know what the shape will look like going forward, but the director said it would mostly return to my original nose. He said he would adjust it as much as possible in that direction... And cartilage tying was also performed.
The consultant said that usually, even after removal, the nose does not collapse or look obviously different, so I felt reassured for now. Even if I don't like this taped nose when I take the taping off, I will never get rhinoplasty again. That hard foreign-body sensation, heaviness, and sensitivity from nasal congestion. I hate it so much. Like the seniors in removal reviews in this community who say they mostly returned, I want to return safely too.
And they say there are quite a few people whose noses become blocked due to cartilage manipulation. The director told me that if I removed it, my nose probably wouldn't be blocked anymore.
