My mom kept saying she really wanted to get a facelift, so this year I made a big decision, looked into clinics, and had her get the surgery. It has been almost a year since she had it… now it has been about 1 year. I did it for her as a filial cosmetic surgery, but honestly the cost was about the price of a trip to Europe, so it wasn't exactly cheap and it was definitely a bit of a burden.. Still, she likes how she looks, so I feel proud too… I thought it might be helpful to share the pros and cons, so I'll organize them here!!
Cons
-The recovery period was extremely uncomfortable at first… At first, my mom said the hardest part was that her face felt stiff and numb ㅠ She said there wasn't as much pain as she expected, but there was a constant uncomfortable feeling… And maybe because the muscles were pulled after surgery, it was hard for her to open her mouth, so eating was very uncomfortable for a month. She also lost weight suddenly during that time….
-The cost is expensive.. Most clinics are around 7 million to 10 million won, and more expensive places go from the mid-10 millions to 20 million won. I think places that don't specialize in facelifts can be cheaper too!
Pros
-It definitely lifts more noticeably than most procedures. She especially likes that her nasolabial folds and jawline clearly changed. Even to me, it's fascinating.. (The melasma disappearing from her face was from separate treatment she received after the surgery.)
My mom regained her confidence… After menopause, she got really depressed because she felt she suddenly looked much older, but after the surgery her personality became brighter..
But a facelift is something you really have to think carefully about before doing… the recovery period was longer than I expected, about 1 month… So even though my mom is satisfied now, in the beginning she was a bit irritated because the tightness felt uncomfortable ㅠ And above all, every director has a different surgical style, so there are many cases where the after-result doesn't come out as expected. My mom didn't want that typical Gangnam auntie style, but wanted a natural-looking lift, so I think you need to look at before-and-after photos at each clinic before choosing one to have fewer regrets!!
