I had orthodontic treatment at a general dental hospital and then had double-jaw surgery at a university hospital.
Before surgery, I had severe asymmetry and my face shape was cucumber-like.
It wasn't to the point where I was suffering from malocclusion, but because the asymmetry was so severe, my confidence had dropped a lot, so
I got double-jaw surgery.
I had it in my early 20s, and now I'm in my early 30s... It's already been 10 years.
Double-jaw surgery requires orthodontic treatment for a long time, and the surgery is difficult and risky, so it took a big decision ㅠㅠ
Maybe because I had it done at a university hospital, they didn't cosmetically make my jaw super pretty and small;
I had the surgery done without greed, just enough to correct the asymmetry.
Maybe that's why I didn't have any major side effects at the time of surgery.
There was not a single thing like decreased sensation or anything like that.
And my cucumber-like face shape became oval, and the asymmetry was corrected to some extent.
You know it's hard to get a 100% symmetrical face with double-jaw surgery, right?
It returned to the point where, at a glance, I just looked normal.
But after double-jaw surgery, if you have limited mouth opening or clicking sounds in the temporomandibular joint, please don't just overlook it and make sure to get treatment.
Now, 10 years later, I'm struggling with my temporomandibular joint ㅠㅠ
The bone of my temporomandibular joint has been resorbed, so the TMJ bone has become deformed. Normally, the TMJ bone should be round, but because of bone resorption, it has become deformed like a three-leaf clover...
Of course, I can't say with 100% certainty that this is a side effect of double-jaw surgery??
But those who have insufficient mouth opening or sounds from the temporomandibular joint after double-jaw surgery...
If you leave it alone like I did and spend 10 years that way, deformation can happen due to frequent friction of the bone.
So now I'm undergoing splint treatment.
They say the temporomandibular joint is still not something with a concept of a 100% cure, but more of a management concept.
After using the splint, my TMJ feels much more comfortable and my headaches have disappeared too.
