My first nose surgery was 10 years ago, and because I felt like my nostrils showed a lot, I wanted alar rim lowering, so I had revision surgery. I searched alar rim lowering online, and there was a doctor who wrote on a blog that alar rim lowering and revision rhinoplasty were their specialties. I thought they would do well, and since it was said to be a clinic that only does rhinoplasty, I thought they would be good, so I think the problem was that I chose the clinic without looking into it much.
Currently, the silicone implant is twisted diagonally, and now that 6 months have passed, my nasal tip has become a huge, bulbous nose. There is also a bulging scar that I did not have after my first surgery.
From the moment I came back with a nasal splint on, I wondered, ‘Why did they attach the splint so diagonally?’ And after removing it, as expected, the silicone was crooked. I kept saying it was crooked, but the clinic kept saying it was normal and only told me to keep waiting.
To get an objective diagnosis, I went to another plastic surgery clinic, and they said the silicone was crooked. The doctor at the other clinic marked the diagonal area between my eyebrows with a pen. They also told me to go and ask the surgeon who operated on me for early correction.
So I went back to the clinic where I had the surgery and said it was crooked and asked for early correction, but they said it was not crooked and was normal, and because I had surgery with donated costal cartilage, early correction should not be done. They said it only looked that way because of swelling and did not correct it.
For months, they only told me it was normal and to wait, so my mental stress grew even worse, and they did not acknowledge it until I showed them photos that made it undeniable.
In the end, after 6 months passed, they agreed to do revision surgery, and if possible, I had also tried to have it done at the clinic where I had surgery, but the doctor’s attitude, which was different from before surgery, hurt me so much.
I paid with my own money, and I did nothing wrong, yet because of the possibility that I might have to receive revision surgery from this person again, I had to be in such a weak position. That thought caused me enormous stress.
Because all my trust in the clinic has hit rock bottom, I am very sad, but I am looking into a third revision surgery. This time, I am really going to look into it carefully and receive it properly from a truly skilled board-certified plastic surgeon, not an otolaryngology specialist.
Everyone, please also look into things carefully, make sure to receive surgery from a board-certified plastic surgeon, and do not be swayed by blog posts that write plausible-sounding things about rhinoplasty techniques.. or posts saying they gave some presentation at an academic conference.
I hope a case like mine does not happen again.
