Since it was my first surgery at a plastic surgery clinic, I was very nervous, but they calmly consulted with me and explained post-surgery care methods and how to receive regular checkups. They also gave me a surgery guarantee card confirming that I had the procedure at the plastic surgery clinic, so I felt I could trust them regarding future after-service matters as well.
After hearing the explanation, I changed clothes in the changing room, washed my face, and moved to the operating room. The operating room was clean. After the doctor and manager who consulted with me explained the overall surgery, anesthesia and the surgery proceeded. The process of going under and waking up from sedation felt like only about 2-3 minutes, so it was surprising that more than 30 minutes had passed. After the sedation wore off, I finished the surgery by closing and opening my eyes according to the doctor’s instructions. The surgery took about 1 hour and 30 minutes in total.
After the surgery, being able to settle down in the recovery room while feeling dazed and dizzy from the anesthetic helped a lot. After resting for about 20 minutes, I felt okay. After resting, I scheduled my stitch removal and was discharged. On the way out, the nurse had arranged in advance so I could pick up my medication at the pharmacy, so it was convenient to get the medicine and go straight home.
When I got home, I could drink water right away and eat as usual, so it was comfortable. As all the anesthetic left my body and the anesthesia wore off, there was slight pain, but it was not at a level I noticed much unless I paid attention to it. Still, after sleeping a bit, I felt much better.
It has now been about a week since surgery. I had the stitches removed yesterday, and after they were taken out, opening and closing my eyes definitely became more comfortable. There is still some bruising around the edges of my eyes, but the swelling seems to have mostly gone down.
The newly changed eyes still feel unfamiliar, but I expect I will gradually get used to them, and I am also looking forward to the eye shape settling as the swelling and bruising go down. I will try to leave photos and posts about the changes once every month or two. :)Things that were disappointingThere wasn’t anything major that was disappointing, but... since I have to write this section, I’ll just write a few episodes.
1. When I went into surgery, they inserted a needle to administer the anesthetic, but maybe I was tensing up too much at first, so it didn’t go in well and they inserted it twice. They said it was because men have good skin elasticity, so thank you for saying it in a way that didn’t make me feel embarrassed.
2. When I woke up from sedation, I felt dazed and strange. It was like my body was breaking into square pieces, or my mind was waking up but my body wouldn’t move... I’ve never experienced sleep paralysis, but I wondered if this was what sleep paralysis feels like... It’s hard to explain, but people born in the 90s might know... It felt like the scene in a SpongeBob episode where Squidward is going to the future, makes a mistake, and ends up in a completely white space. LOL. It also made me wonder if this is how drug addiction happens... In the end, it was a slightly scary experience. Still, the anesthesia worked well and the surgery went well, so I’m satisfied.
3. After the surgery ended, they did briefly tell me in the operating room that the surgery went well, but I did wish the doctor had given even a short final consultation or explanation. The nurse at reception explained things before and after the surgery too, and this is probably the same at other hospitals, so I guess that’s just how it is.
Overall, there was nothing major that was disappointing. The episodes above are personal things, so I think I can just laugh them off. Since my changed eyes and face still feel unfamiliar even to me, I do have worries like, “Did I do this for nothing?”, “What if the double eyelid keeps showing?”, and “When will it start looking natural?” Still, I like that my eyes open well even with less effort in my forehead than before, and that my eyes look a bit clearer. If there is one slightly disappointing part, it’s that the inner double eyelid on my left eye is still quite visible, so I’m wondering when it will naturally settle back to being barely visible LOL. The right side seems to have settled well, so I’ll wait and see.
