I had osteotomy for my hump nose and slightly raised the nasal tip with septal cartilage. Since I was 20, I agonized so much over whether to do it or not, but because I’m very fearful, I just lived thinking I should live with the way I was born. Still, the complex didn’t disappear. In the end, I had surgery at 29, and the conclusion is that I’m really satisfied. The only regret is that I should have done it when I was even a little younger... That’s all.
When looking for a hospital, I first focused on doctors specialized in nose surgery, and ultimately chose a university hospital with an emergency system in place even if something went wrong during surgery.
First, the downside of a university hospital is that because it is not a private clinic, the service is not great. They don’t kindly explain the surgical method and so on. They also don’t listen in detail to the patient’s requests or concerns. Communication is not as smooth as at private clinics. There are limits because even seeing the doctor face-to-face requires an appointment at least one month in advance, and before setting the surgery date you only consult with a counseling nurse, so there are few opportunities to meet the doctor directly. So even on the day of surgery, I felt very uneasy and anxiousㅠㅜ And the doctor was authoritative, so it wasn’t an atmosphere where I could freely say this and thatㅠ
However, the advantage is that they operate according to manuals and systems, so the probability of accidents is low, and after surgery, it was good because care was managed systematically. The doctor I chose keeps researching without stopping, attends papers and overseas forums, and is well-known and continuously active in the field of rhinoplasty, which made me trust him.
My nose is high, but I didn’t like the nasal bridge being bent to begin with, so I didn’t request anything other than that. However, they said that in the surgical process, the nasal tip had to be raised at least a little, so I asked them to raise it minimally with only septal cartilage. But they said that if there was not enough septal cartilage during surgery, they would have no choice but to use ear cartilage, so I had no choice but to agreeㅠ Still, thankfully, when I came out after surgery, my ear was intact, so I felt relieved.
After surgery, I suffered a lot from extreme pain and discomfort I had never experienced before.. But now, at 5 months, it has settled very naturally. Of course, I’m not 100% satisfied cosmetically. I’m generously giving it about 80% satisfaction, thinking it’s something that it didn’t fail.
However, in terms of function aside from cosmetic aspects, I’m 120% satisfied. Before, the bone inside my nose was deviated, so I couldn’t breathe well and my nose was blocked every day, but now I can breathe well, sleep deeply, and anyway, because my nose is doing its proper function, my quality of life has improved. So I’m very satisfied. haha
In conclusion, the advice I can give is that if you have functional problems, I recommend surgery! If you’ve decided you’re going to have surgery, I want to say do it as soon as possible while you’re young! And if the cosmetic purpose is big, never think that you will become a completely different person from your original appearance, and I think it’s good for mental health not to be greedy from the beginning. I also had such high expectations that right after surgery I was very disappointed and extremely stressed^^
