Nose Surgery Reviews@rhino-review

4th revision rhinoplasty with donated costal cartilage - long post warning!!

<4th nose surgery, day 1~30?><4th nose surgery, 1 month~13~14 months?><Before and after 4th nose surgery 1><Before and after 4th nose surgery 2>I joined wondering if there was any way to lose even a little more easily, even though I knew exercise was the only answer. It’s been quite a while.

I came in to get information on body-related procedures and surgeries, but all I concluded was that, aside from liposuction, the results were not that great. Still, as I was browsing around the nose-related board, where I consider myself somewhat of a semi-expert, I thought sharing my experience might help. I’m in my 40s / I’ve had 4 nose surgeries and 1 procedure so far.

#First nose surgery - U.S. My first surgery was in the U.S. You might wonder, why the U.S., but my whole family immigrated, so I got dragged along too. The mistake of my first surgery was none other than getting surgery from an American(?) doctor. I don’t remember exactly whether the doctor was American or European, but they definitely were not Korean. Thanks to that, I was gifted a very large nose, and I lived with it fairly okay. Actually, my nasal bridge was not that low, but I guess it looked very low to them. People told me that all they could see was my nose, but I didn’t really care. Then I came to Korea. While hearing all kinds of comments like that it looked masculine, that all they could see was my nose, and so on.

#Second nose surgery - Korea An older woman I knew introduced me to a doctor. I just lay down. It seemed like he was a doctor she knew well. I definitely asked him to lower my nasal bridge a bit more, but why did my face look the same after surgery as before? On top of that, the nasal tip became higher. It became a bit sharper. Still, well... I lived without thinking much about it.

#Third nose surgery - Korea I lay down on the operating table for my third surgery, dreaming that there would still be septal cartilage inside my nose. Oh no... there wasn’t any. The medical team who operated on me said they opened my nose intending to harvest the septum, but because there was no septum, they closed the nose again and harvested ear cartilage. I felt sorry. Why did I say I hadn’t used my septal cartilage... I just thought it had not been used... But as it turned out, it seems the foreign medical team from my first surgery had used my septum... There was no septal cartilage grafted anywhere in my nose, and they said the place where the septum had been only had traces of harvesting. It would have been fine if I had just said I wasn’t sure whether it had been used or not... After the surgery was over, I later brought the surgical team something tasty... I felt bad because it took so long because of me... On top of that, there was one more thing: they said there was Medpor in my nose. When I asked what that was, it was an artificial material, like plastic. They said the tissue where the Medpor had been implanted was not in good condition, so they removed it. The reason my nasal tip was high after the second surgery was Medpor. As time passed after surgery, I began to understand why they had recommended costal cartilage during the consultation. My nose was on the larger side compared with other people’s, and my skin was thick, so as time passed my nasal tip gradually drooped. It would have been better if I had at least had septal cartilage, but after removing the Medpor, there was a limit to holding it up with ear cartilage, they said. So after several years passed, I decided to have surgery with costal cartilage.

#Fourth nose surgery - Korea To be honest, I didn’t really have much intention of getting surgery again. The people around me were the problem. I was fine, but why were they so interested in someone else’s nose? They kept telling me to do it. I’m human too, so as the reactions around me increased over time, I decided to have surgery. When I took a side-view photo before surgery... I really did need to do it. I think I’m really insensitive. But I did not want to harvest my own costal cartilage. Even now, occasionally wearing a bikini and tanning is one of my healing points... so I decided to graft someone else’s cartilage. I had the surgery. It has already been a year and a half.

The nasal tip has come down a little compared with the beginning. Still, it is much better than when I was holding it up with ear cartilage. There is no reason to have surgery anymore. Until a problem occurs, I plan to do nothing.

If my first rhinoplasty had been done not by a foreigner but by a Korean doctor, and if it had been a somewhat natural nose that suited me, given my personality, I don’t think I would have had any reason to go as far as 4 surgeries.

There is only one reason I’m leaving this post: It’s because I feel like an older sister or auntie hoping you get surgery that suits your face. Don’t follow your friends, don’t copy celebrities, and only want as much as fits your face and can come from your own face. I never once got greedy, but honestly, I never really researched properly before getting surgery. The first time, I was led by my mom’s hand; the second time, by an older woman I knew; the third time, because the boss at my workplace said his golf friend ran a plastic surgery clinic (I didn’t know he was not a board-certified plastic surgeon); and the fourth time, after going through enough hardship, I at least looked into it a bit... There is no doctor who is perfect for me.

For reference, even if my surgery turned out well and I introduce the doctor, it may not be the same for a friend. There is no right answer.

The photos before my first surgery were from when I was too young, so I don’t think I need to reveal them. Actually, I barely have any photos. Photos from before immigrating are a bitㅠㅠ. So I’m only uploading before and after my 4th surgery. One last request. Don’t follow a friend to Gangnam (plastic surgery clinics), don’t get surgery by following the internet, and don’t blindly trust YouTube. It’s your face, so carefully find a design that suits you. The doctor is very important. Every doctor’s idea of a pretty design is different. I don’t trust it either when they say they will do everything exactly as the patient says. It just seems safest to choose a design that suits my face.

For reference, if I say I’ve had several nose surgeries, people think I must have had many other surgeries too, but I’ve only had my nose done a lot. No, actually, I had my eyes done too. (Actually, I had my eyes done several times too. Because I got eyes that didn’t suit me... a full outline on small eyes.) The last eye surgery was because I got older and my eyelid creases sagged. The first eye surgery was because my open-minded mom dragged me there. I had it during winter break in my third year of middle school, right before immigrating. She dragged me there saying I should study instead of cutting Scotch tape to make double eyelids. (Back then, there was no double-eyelid tape or double-eyelid glue. We cut Scotch tape or stuck it on with glue...) For reference, I was born early in the year, so I was quite young. I went to church a month after double-eyelid surgery, and the older guys at church didn’t recognize me lol

I just hope this post makes many people who think of plastic surgery lightly think a little more carefully. I’m an insensitive person, and it’s not that I had side effects, but the shape did not suit me, and because of countless nagging comments from people around me, I ended up having multiple revision surgeries. I’m satisfied now, but if it had been done well the first time, I ended up having surgery 4 times that I might not have needed.

It’s so long... I don’t know how to end this.

The end!!!

For reference, I don’t come here often. Please understand if I can’t reply right away.
