The two photos at the very bottom are my current photos after double jaw surgery.
Even if you send me a private message/comment, I will absolutely not tell you the hospital name. But it was done by an oral and maxillofacial surgery department, and after studying and visiting many places for about 3 years regarding double jaw surgery and orthodontics, I can say with confidence that I received treatment at what I consider the best hospital and the best orthodontic clinic. (During consultations at various hospitals and during my hospital stay, the doctors and nurses were surprised at how much I knew.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Asymmetry: I first realized I had asymmetry in high school... In middle school I did not really notice it, but when the photographer said during my high school graduation photo shoot, "Tilt your head a little to the right," I still remember the expression on my face, like something felt off and I was not convinced... And when the graduation photo came out, I realized my left-right asymmetry was extremely severe, like a patient with Bell's palsy. I think it was probably because since middle school I often sat with my legs crossed or in a crossed-leg seated position, sat with one leg propped up a lot, and also because my teeth and bite were bad, so I should have gotten orthodontic treatment earlier but missed the timing... As an adult, taking photos became a huge complex, so my ID card still uses the same photo taken when I first got it at age 19 (the photo studio blurred my mouth area so the asymmetry looks a little less noticeable, but it looks a bit weird;;), and even the ID photo needed for things like joining a company was taken when I was 22 and I kept using that same one;; -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Teeth: Class III malocclusion, orthodontics with 4 extractions. The difficulty was rank 13 out of 15 (the worst), or something like that... The orthodontic cost alone was 9 million won. And because my maxilla is small (in a normal person, the maxilla is large and the mandible is small. Mine is the opposite: the maxilla is small and the mandible is large), they said arch expansion was needed, but I was too old for it...(It is only possible up to the very early 20s, and if you do it when you are older, the appliance will cause the teeth to break apart completely...) They also said black triangles (gaps between the teeth) would definitely appear, and that the teeth would be corrected inward... ㅠㅠ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Double jaw surgery: First I visited about 20 places starting with plastic surgery clinics (after each consultation I always received the panorama and CT images), and I always recorded my consultations with the doctor + I studied double jaw surgery to some extent and watched many surgery scenes on YouTube. Unless the doctor is one of the tiny minority of crazy people obsessed with money, the conclusion at most places was that presurgical orthodontics is essential + skeletal asymmetry + double jaw surgery rather than single jaw surgery, without exception. They also said there is eye-level asymmetry + ear-level asymmetry + nose asymmetry + lip asymmetry + skull asymmetry... At this point I feel like they should almost make it an insurance-covered case...(Unfortunately, it is not covered under current insurance rules.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Results after double jaw surgery: As you can see in the photos, asymmetry can only be improved a little; it can absolutely not be eliminated or made perfectly symmetric. In dermatology terms, it is like pores. (This is advice from someone with real experience who spent more than 5 million won at dermatology clinics trying to treat pores.) While studying, I heard that double jaw surgery improves asymmetry by 70%, but honestly... < What I actually felt after double jaw surgery was only about a 20-30% improvement in asymmetry. > -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - What I will do next: I still have about 1 year of post-orthodontic treatment left (I already paid, so I have no choice but to finish it...) so I will finish that first. Three months from now I plan to have eye correction surgery to make a hidden double eyelid and align the asymmetry and eye height as much as possible (since the bone-level eye heights are completely different, I suppose I have to do it with the goal of improvement...) And about 10 months from now I am thinking about surgery for a deviated nasal septum (of course, perfect symmetry is absolutely impossible here too, and I understand it should also be done with the goal of improving asymmetry just like double jaw surgery.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And as a side note, do not ever go to a Korean medicine clinic. The idea that facial asymmetry can be fixed with acupuncture or massage is ridiculous. I also stupidly wasted over 3 million won there beforeㅋㅋ Just use that money to go to a gym and exercise in a way that balances your body, and search YouTube for pelvic correction exercises and do those instead (I have been doing them for a year).
