Hello:) It’s been a while since I wrote a post Did everyone have a good holiday? If you’ve seen the post I wrote before, you’ll know, but around June-July last year I developed pain around the nasal bridge and started looking into removal, and I finally did it!!! Today is already day 10! To briefly explain my previous condition: First surgery: in 2010, closed approach / L-shaped silicone + ear cartilage Revision: in 2013, because of complications from the first surgery.... (the L-shaped silicone had bent and was just about to poke through toward the right nostril ala area) straight silicone + septal cartilage + reused ear cartilage After the first surgery and revision, in July last year I was bothered by nostril asymmetry that had been there since my original nose, so I only had lowering of the left nostril rim done (same revision hospital)
After the revision, I had been living satisfied with both the shape and function, with nothing lacking, but after bumping heads with my dog around June-July last year, my nasal bridge hurt especially badly.... Then I found out about this community and learned about removal!!!!! I went to consultations at 3 removal hospitals, and they said my nose was upturned and it was contracture, so they recommended revision surgery rather than total removal. (One place said total removal would also be okay...)
Because of the nostril rim lowering at the revision hospital, I had CT scans and visited the hospital every month, and they told me that my nose had lifted a little, but it was not contracture!! I agonized so much over whether to do total removal or remove only the silicone and revise the nasal tip If it’s contracture, wouldn’t total removal make it too upturned and hard to deal with..... Revision surgery is so expensive though.......
I communicated well with the director at my revision hospital and they worried together with me, so I kept telling the revision hospital too. The doctor said that if we remove it, it will really become low, and asked if I’d be okay with that... They also gave me several other options, said they would take responsibility until the end, and suggested I spend some time trying to worry about it a little less I whined every time I went, but they always comforted me well! Then in January, my nasal bridge felt so tight and painful, and my nerves were focused only there, so I just couldn’t go on no matter what So I decided on revision surgery! And went back to the revision hospital! The doctor said that since I’m still young, they wanted the shape to be pretty too, but they gave in to my insistence that I don’t want artificial material!! and that I’ll live with a lower bridge So we decided to remove the silicone and, for the nasal tip, reuse septal cartilage and use ear cartilage to lower the tip a little more!
The long-awaited surgery day!!! Before surgery, my mom and I had a consultation with the director.... My mom was also worried, asking how much lower the bridge would become The doctor said they had suggested several other methods and tried to persuade me, but I was firm, so there was no choice! They said they would lower the tip to match the height after removing the silicone and bring it down a little to shape it! I didn’t want to take out ear cartilage, so I told the doctor I wanted to avoid taking it as much as possible, and they said they would try not to use it as much as possible, but if it was needed, they wouldn’t not use it. I said yes!! Even while preparing for surgery, I chatted nonstop with the operating room nurses and felt really comfortable. (They put several pre-op photos from different angles in the operating room, and when a nurse saw them and said she had seen me somewhere, another said I was the person who came last year....) After all the preparation was done, the doctor came in and told me to go to sleep and wake up When I came to, they were finishing up.... While half-awake, I asked the doctor, “Did it go well?” and they said it went well When I asked, “Did you use ear cartilage?” they said, “Yeah, a little” After surgery, they told me the nasal bridge was a bit unfortunate, but the surgery went well! My nose had hurt so much, but they said there was no inflammation!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a splint, but no nasal packing, so I felt like I could fly It was an afternoon surgery, and maybe because I had gone without eating all day, the swelling wasn’t severe, so I got my medicine and came home!
Until day 3, there was a little swelling up to my cheekbones, but after that there honestly wasn’t much swelling. Even though I had the splint on, all my family members said the nasal tip had come down! They said it was fascinating
My nasal bridge is still soft, there’s bruising, and the nasal tip is still swollen, but I don’t regret removing the silicone! Since there were hospitals that said contracture was suspected, I thought revision surgery would be better than total removal! After doing a lot of online research and in-person consultations, I thought total removal is not necessarily the answer.... (It may differ from person to person......) Even if you go to the hospital where I had surgery, you may not necessarily get good results like mine, so I think it will be hard to share the hospital! If you look at posts or comments I wrote, you may be able to tell where it is... but I won’t separately share the information!! You may be curious about before-and-after photos, but once it’s been 2 weeks, I’ll try uploading before-and-after photos!
Everyone said that once you remove the nasal implant, the bridge pain disappears right away, but for me it’s still the same... Maybe it’s because there was irritation while removing the silicone and capsule The doctor also said it can be like that for a month, so I’m going to live with peace of mind!! I wrote this in a rambling way, but this was a community where I received a lot of help, so I wanted to share!!!!!!!! Then I’ll come back later with photos. Bye!!!
