I had facial contouring surgery (cheekbones + square jaw) from Dr. O Ch H at B N B G. Looking back, I really didn’t know anything back then, and I think I just went around to two clinics with my mom and picked one... I was really lucky to meet a fairly good doctor, so I’m glad the surgery was completed without any problems. Of course, I’m not satisfied with everything though lol
<At the time of surgery> Wow.... it was so hard... It really made me realize I actually did it, to the point where I wondered why I even did it... I was a little scared getting onto the operating table... Lying down on the table wearing only a gown on bare skin made all kinds of thoughts run through my head. When the anesthesia kicked in, it was strange how everything cut to black all at once without any sense of it happening...ㅎㅎ From the moment I started waking up after it ended, it was hell. I could barely breathe, there were all sorts of things in my mouth and nose, and I was cold and stuff ㅜㅜ My mom told me that the surgery took a bit longer because I wasn’t stopping the bleeding well. For reference, my physical condition after surgery was really bad. I felt nauseous, had a headache, and my whole body just felt weak. My mom felt so bad for me that she gave the nurse a little money and asked her to take good care of me, and they gave me some IV fluids. For anyone who’s about to have surgery, please make sure your physical condition is at its absolute best before going in.
I stayed in the hospital for one night and then went home. After that, I basically did nothing but lie downㅋㅋㅋ I was in no condition to do anything... I was in pain and felt suffocated, and there was a moment when I got extremely irritated (I just wanted to scream and rip everything off my faceㅋㅋ) Take a deep breath....hoo...ha... and get through it...
The swelling went down much faster than I expected, and after about 2 weeks I think I was about 80% recovered? My cousin saw me and was surprised too. Back then I just looked like I’d eaten ramen the day before and gotten puffy. I didn’t really get any special aftercare. I would go out in front of the apartment complex every so often to walk around the grounds, and I drank pumpkin juice three times a day. I think I recovered quickly because I was still young then.
After that I had to go abroad for college, so I couldn’t return to the hospital, and before leaving the country I went in one last time for a consultation to ask whether I should remove a bit more facial fat (I was thin, but my face always had a lot of fat, so I wondered if the surgery effect was not very noticeable). The doctor recommended not removing it. He said the swelling might go down more over time, I was still young so it might just be baby fat, and if I removed it and later regretted it, putting it back would be harder. He said it was a procedure I could do later. So I didn’t do it, and I really think it was the right choice not to back then. Nowadays there are so many developed treatments like InMode and injection procedures.
<Review back then> Nobody knew I’d had surgery. That was both good and bad. On one hand, if I was going to do it, I wanted it to look noticeably slimmer. Of course, from the doctor’s perspective, there were limits to what could be done, and with the balance of my facial features, maybe that was all that could be achieved. Still, I think I looked rounder and softer than before, and just the fact that it didn’t look dead(?) was a reliefㅋㅋ
<Review 11 years later> My cheekbones came back out after 1 to 2 years. (I think part of it is because I didn’t wear the band properly very often... I often pulled all-nighters at university, and I lived with roommates, so I was too embarrassed to wear it much...) As I said above, the square jaw was not shaved down very much, so there wasn’t a huge difference. It just felt like I lost a bit of weight? Actually, I went in because of facial asymmetry, but that wasn’t fixed at all. I guess there’s a limit without double-jaw surgery. I still haven’t regained all my sensation. Especially the chin tip area. If something touches my face, I can feel that something is there. It just feels a little numb? (It doesn’t really interfere with anything, so I don’t worry about it much) I think there is a bit of cheek sagging, but I’m not sure. I still have a lot of facial fat...ㅋㅋ I finally returned to Korea recently, and I’m looking into what treatments I can get.
I’m also looking into my own surgery again, so this time I signed up and joined the community to do proper groundwork. I want to level up quickly. I’ll try to post reviews here and there as I go. I’m still thinking a lot about double jaw surgery... it’s such a big operation. And since the risk of complications is high, I’m going to look into whether I can correct the asymmetry without it if possible.
I hope this long post helps even a little. Wishing everyone a good day~!
