Hello.^^ Before I started visiting clinics to look into closed rhinoplasty (my first surgery), I got a lot of help from the reviews here, so I thought I’d write one too. Based on recommendations from acquaintances who directly checked the results after surgery, safety, and naturalness, I narrowed it down to 6 clinics. I’ve been to 4 clinics so far, and I plan to visit 2 more by December before making my final decision. After going to a few, I started to avoid places that don’t do CT scans during consultations. (The difference in consultation quality between the 2 clinics that did not take CT scans was extreme.)
My current nose has some bridge and tip height, but it has a hump and a bulbous tip. The nose I want after surgery is actress Kim Go-eun’s nose.^^
<Surgery cost: A if under 5 million, B for 5 to 10 million, C for over 10 million>
1. Early November 2024 Clinic name: ㅁㅋ Plastic Surgery Consultant: Dr. Lee Woo-jin (board-certified plastic surgeon) Consultation fee: 10,000 won Consultation details: CT scan and explanation. (Surgery cost A) Process: 1. Coordinator - Listened to my current complaints about my nose and the nose I want after surgery, and took notes well. - Since they knew it was my first consultation, they explained the surgical materials for rhinoplasty (cartilage, rib cartilage) in detail / otherwise there wasn’t much helpful information. 2. Doctor - He was kind, smiled a lot, and explained my nose shape using the CT images. - But he spoke too quickly, so I didn’t find him trustworthy, and I felt there was no communication at all with the coordinator. I had talked at length with the coordinator that I wanted no implant, but they suggested silicone, which surprised me. - He said the septal cartilage was sufficient, so we could use that. If there wasn’t enough during surgery, he said ear cartilage could also be used. - In conclusion, he suggested slightly shaving down the hump, building support at the tip with <septal cartilage + ear cartilage>, placing cartilage on the tip, and adding cartilage to the supra-tip area to remove the step-off. 3. Coordinator - I asked to see photos of cases similar to my nose, but they said there weren’t any at all, which was surprising because the doctor had said my nose was common and easy. - They wrote the surgery plan again on a small piece of paper and explained the surgery cost / they said if I reserved quickly, this would be the price, but there was no pressure.
2. Early November 2024 Clinic name: ㄴㅈㄹ ENT Consultant: Dr. Kang Cha-young (ENT specialist) Consultation fee: 30,000 won Consultation details: CT scan and explanation. (Surgery cost C) 1. Coordinator - Briefly listened to my current complaints about my nose and the nose I want after surgery, then immediately moved on to the doctor’s consultation. 2. Doctor - Looking at the CT images, he carefully and very well pointed out my nose’s functional and cosmetic issues. He felt the most professional. - However, even though I strongly emphasized that I wanted no implant, he said to use silicone or rib cartilage + septal cartilage + ear cartilage / he said that when surgery is done without an implant, the most common case is being unhappy with the shape and needing revision surgery. He kept saying we should do the surgery so that I’d like the result from the start. - He did not seem opposed to silicone. On the contrary, he said silicone has almost no side effects. Also, when I asked about side effects such as contracture, tip cartilage visibility, and inflammation, he spoke about them as if they were not common complications, which made it feel a bit casual. - In conclusion, he planned to shave down the hump, perform lateral and medial osteotomies because the bridge is wide, reduce the base of the nose, use <septal cartilage> to build support at the tip and place cartilage on it, and use silicone or rib cartilage on the bridge. 3. Coordinator - They summarized it again while writing the surgical plan on the consultation sheet. - When I asked to see photos of cases similar to my nose, they showed me only one person, and when I said I’d think about it, they suddenly asked whether I had decided between silicone or rib cartilage and whether they should schedule the surgery date now, which surprised me. - If using a plan with rib cartilage, the surgery cost was C, but if not using rib cartilage and instead using silicone, the surgery cost was B.
3. Mid-November 2024 Clinic name: ㅇㅆ Plastic Surgery Clinic Consultant: Dr. Oh Gwang-jin (board-certified plastic surgeon) Consultation fee: 11,000 won Consultation details: No CT scan. (Surgery cost A) 1. Coordinator - Briefly listened to my current complaints about my nose and the nose I want after surgery, then moved straight to the doctor’s consultation / it was a kind and comfortable atmosphere, but I felt it was the least professional because they just repeated what I said. 2. Doctor - He seemed playful and easygoing. He answered my questions kindly and thoroughly. BUT because he only examined me by touch without a CT scan and tried to judge cartilage size that way, I didn’t trust it much. - He said it seemed like an ambiguous bulbous nose (in size), so the cartilage would probably be small too, but looking at my ears, he thought the ear cartilage would probably be small as well. - He said to slightly shave down the hump, and that lateral osteotomy wasn’t necessary. He suggested using only ear cartilage to build support at the tip, place it on the tip, and raise the supra-tip area. (I, as someone who wanted to preserve the septal cartilage, was tempted by the fact that he said he wouldn’t use septal cartilage.) 3. Coordinator - Briefly went over the surgical plan and explained the surgery cost item by item, then finished.
4. Mid-November 2024 Clinic name: ㅋㅎ Clinic Consultant: Dr. Park Jong-gwi (surgeon) Consultation fee: None Consultation details: No CT scan. (Surgery cost B) 1. Coordinator - Briefly listened to my current complaints about my nose and the nose I want after surgery, then moved straight to the doctor’s consultation / there had been no coordinator who answered my questions properly, but this person was the only one who answered with knowledge similar to a doctor’s. 2. Doctor - He was a bit older. He carefully looked at and felt my nose, then calmly and thoroughly explained its current condition and worked toward a compromise between the shape he thought was right and the shape I wanted. - He said my nose is an ambiguous bulbous nose in size, but it feels like there is a large cartilage inside being compressed, so just tying the cartilage together could already have a big effect. (He said something completely opposite from ㅇㅆ Plastic Surgery Clinic.) - He suggested shaving down the hump, narrowing the wide nasal bone with lateral osteotomy, building support at the tip with septal cartilage, and placing ear cartilage on the tip. Since the supra-tip could look sunken, he said if the septum was sufficient, use septal cartilage, and if not, fill it with ear cartilage. - BUT because he only examined it by touch without a CT scan, I didn’t trust it very much. 3. Coordinator - They showed me several detailed photos of similar cases. While talking through the surgical plan, they also mentioned related side effects and told me the surgery cost. - I was impressed by how carefully they checked on patients who came back after surgery.
