I wanted to leave a review of the nose surgery I had, so I am posting this. As I wrote in the title, I had alar reduction and correction of drooping alae. Both were done by incision at Unimedi Plastic Surgery.
Since my teenage years, my nose had been a complex for me. Because my nostrils were very large. Even when I was just staying still, the nostril area looked extremely wide, as if I were deliberately putting strength into my nostrils and flaring them. Because of that, I avoided taking photos (so I am still bad at selfiesㅠ), and whenever I happened to take a selfie, I paid a lot of attention to making my alae look smaller.
I had thought I should do it as soon as I became an adult, but many things came up, so I ended up doing it a bit late haha Just then COVID broke out and I had to wear a mask around, so I thought this was a good opportunity and started seriously looking into hospitals, setting a budget, and making a plan. There was no one around me who had alar reduction, so I got information online. I narrowed down a few hospitals famous for alar reduction, and I visited Unimedi first. Personally, I got a lot of information about alar reduction while looking at the hospital website, and I also saw many reviews saying people were satisfied because it was not overdone.
After consulting with the consultant, you consult with the director. It was my first time ever having a nose consultation, and wow~ both of them explained things in great detail. Starting from the structure of the nose, I heard detailed explanations about what degree of angle each part should form to look aesthetically good, and what procedures would be needed for my nose by area. They do not do every surgery at once; for an ideal nose shape, they recommend the procedures in order, from Plan 1 to Plan 4, starting with which surgery would be best to do first. Among them, I decided to do Plan 1, alar reduction together with correction of drooping alae (nasal wings). I had not known this, but my alae were drooping a lot compared with my nasal tip. That is why my nostrils looked large and even the nose hairs inside were all visible... I was satisfied with the consultation because it answered all the questions I usually had. The director also pursued natural-looking results and did not pressure me into unreasonable surgery, so I decided to have it done here.
On the day of surgery, it was done under local anesthesia. It only hurt a little when the anesthetic injection was first given, and after that it did not hurt much. I revisited one week later to have the stitches removed. From the time the stitches were removed, recovery really started in earnest.
It has been a little over a month since I did it, and I am posting before-and-after photos together. The 1st and 2nd photos are before, the 3rd to 6th photos are after surgery. The last photo is a side-by-side before-and-after comparison. I had gotten used to the current size of my nostrils, so I did not realize it, but when I took out old photos again to write the review, wow... the difference is big. If you look closely, you can see that the width of the alae has decreased, and at the same time the nasal wings have come down, so the visibility of the inside of the nostrils has improved a lot.
Hmm... if you ask how much the nostrils shrank? Before, even my index finger went in easily when picking my nose, but now even putting in my little finger is barely possible lol. They shrank a lot. Since my nose was so spread out, it would have been more dramatic if I had done the nasal tip too, but I did not want to put in an implant or cartilage, so I am planning to stop at this much. Still, for a surgery without an implant, the visible difference is big, so I am very satisfied. I have even heard things like, did you lose weight, or your nose seems higher. I regret not getting a consultation a little earlier. Although I had incisions, I applied ointment well and managed it diligently, so the scars do not look very noticeable. Plastic surgery itself is a major decision, so I cannot just recommend it to anyone, but if large nostrils are a major complex for you like they were for me, I do not think you would regret doing it.
