Before<before revision>After<after revision>I heard that autologous costal cartilage holds the nasal tip well, so when I was still in school I had my first rhinoplasty done with autologous costal cartilage at an otorhinolaryngology clinic But unlike what I expected, there was a lot of shape deformation even though it was done with autologous costal cartilageㅜ What they used then was the very bottom cartilage and ear cartilage, but for some reason the nasal tip became odd, like it had become contracted/“built up”ㅜ When I talked to the hospital, instead of a re-correction, they just said my skin recovery was slow, and that was nonsense
I fought with the hospital where the first surgery was done and got tired of it after that Since my dad is a plastic surgeon, I had a revision using reused autologous costal cartilage, without using ear cartilage Because the goal was reconstruction, the shape was still not what I likedㅠ After talking a lot with my dad, he said that even autologous costal cartilage is better in the upper part The lower part is weaker thereㅜㅜㅜ But why are many hospitals using lower rib cartilage? They said it’s because upper rib cartilage is difficult to harvest
So I thought this surgery would truly be the last one and looked for places that handle autologous costal cartilage well while using upper rib cartilage In the end, I had my third revision rhinoplasty I considered two places, passed on one that used lower rib cartilage, and chose one final place
Now that a little over two weeks have passed, the shape has improved a lot and I’m satisfied The lower part of the nose is still firm, but since it should improve over time, I won’t stress too much about it I’ve had rhinoplasty with autologous costal cartilage three times, right? I learned clearly that autologous costal cartilage must be done by a surgeon who truly handles rib cartilage well... I wish I had known this earlierㅜㅜ The support force holding the nose is different Now I hardly think about my old nose; I just want to keep this shape from now on I wrote this review in case anyone in this community is looking into revision with autologous costal cartilage. I’ll stop here
