After Review of filing for relief for rhinoplasty side effects
My son had rhinoplasty at a very famous plastic surgery clinic in a large building in Gangnam. He had surgery for a deviated septum that made it difficult to breathe through his nose, together with nasal tip surgery. Within a week after surgery, he developed a saddle nose and underwent revision surgery, but this time his nose is becoming depressed, so functionally and cosmetically he is in a state where a third revision surgery is needed. The hospital that performed the surgery offered a settlement amount that would not even cover the revision surgery cost, let alone compensation for damages, so we filed for relief with the Korea Consumer Agency and were recommended a settlement of 16 million KRW, but the hospital says they can only give 10 million KRW. For reference, revision surgery costs about 15 million KRWㅠ
Everyone~ These days, as cosmetic surgery damage keeps increasing, if you post an honest review you get sued for defamation, and the consumer agency has no enforcement power, so it does nothing for you. In the end, even if you suffer 1 million KRW in damages, to receive compensation you have to spend 5 million KRW on attorney fees and go to trial.
Even though K-pop culture is dominant and Korea is a powerhouse in cosmetic surgery, relief for medical dispute damages is still at the level of a developing country. You cannot even write reviews, and receiving compensation for damages is difficult. The reviews you can see are almost at the level of advertisements and do not tell the truth. Even the consumer agency says there is nothing they can do if the hospital does not answer the phone, nothing they can do if the settlement is not paid, and there is not even 1 thing they can do. I kept hearing only that they could not do anything. Why does the consumer agency exist? Whose side is it on? I even wonder whether it is an institution that exists to make consumers give up.
This has to change now. Fair compensation for damages from medical accidents must be made. I plan to keep making efforts, even if small, until things change, through a petition to the government petition board about the limits of consumer agency relief, civil complaints against cosmetic surgery hospitals, and consumer rights protection through a community. When choosing a hospital for cosmetic surgery, please do not blindly trust it just because it is famous. Please thoroughly look into the operating doctor and then decide.
