10 years ago, I rushed into double eyelid surgery, ptosis correction surgery, and epicanthoplasty. After that, I was worried because I was left with epicanthoplasty scars and incision-site scars, so 5 years ago I visited JW Jungwon Plastic Surgery to ask about epicanthoplasty reconstruction. Director Choi Hong-rim recommended epicanthoplasty reconstruction as well as revision double eyelid surgery, revision eye shape correction, and lateral canthoplasty. After the surgery, after receiving revision double eyelid surgery and revision eye shape correction, my eyes opened too widely, making it difficult to look straight ahead, and the pain was severe. Two weeks later, when Director Choi Hong-rim checked my progress, I told him about this, but I did not receive an answer about it. Right after the follow-up with Director Choi Hong-rim, I had a consultation with Director Kim Yeon-jun. Without asking any questions, Director Kim Yeon-jun used a stick to stretch my eye straight out, then immediately left the consultation room. Under sleep anesthesia, Director Kim Yeon-jun performed lateral canthoplasty. After surgery, I looked in the mirror and was flustered because my impression had changed considerably. I had severe foreign-body sensation and pain at the lateral canthoplasty site, and because the left and right lateral canthoplasty positions were different, my eyes became asymmetrical. Since immediate revision surgery was not possible, I had revision surgery on the right lateral canthoplasty 6 months later.
As a result of the surgery, I ended up with an unnatural, hook-shaped inner corner of the eye, and severe scarring remained at the incision site on the upper eyelid. Although I had incisional surgery, the right double eyelid loosened and my eyes became asymmetrical, and I developed burning pain and a foreign-body sensation at the lateral canthoplasty site. In addition, I came to suffer from severe dry eye syndrome and a dull aching pain in the upper eyelid area.
To find information about epicanthoplasty reconstruction and revision eye surgery, I joined several plastic reconstruction communities and had consultations at several hospitals. At University Hospital A, I talked about the side effects from lateral canthoplasty and side effects from eye shape correction surgery, and asked about solutions. The professor advised me not to undergo any more revision surgeries. At Hospital B, they said that even if I had lateral canthoplasty reconstruction, the pain or foreign-body sensation might not disappear, and that there was a possibility the issue could be resolved if the lateral canthoplasty fixation sutures were removed, so they told me to ask the surgeon who performed the operation to remove the lateral canthoplasty fixation sutures. At University Hospital C, they told me to ask the surgeon who operated on me to remove the lateral canthoplasty fixation sutures. At Plastic Surgery Clinic D, they said the biggest problem now was the unnatural shape of the epicanthoplasty area, so they recommended that I get epicanthoplasty reconstruction surgery at another hospital first, then undergo revision double eyelid surgery to improve the eye shape. So in 2021, I had revision epicanthoplasty reconstruction at Plastic Surgery Clinic E. In 2023, because of the continuing foreign-body sensation and pain at the lateral canthoplasty surgery site, I went to the surgeon who operated on me at JW Jungwon Plastic Surgery and had the fixation sutures at the lateral canthoplasty site removed.
As of 2024, my eyes open too widely, making it difficult to look straight ahead. Because of severe dry eyes, strong pulling in the eyes, and dull aching pain in the upper eyelid area, I end up blinking frequently. Because of burning pain at the lateral canthoplasty site, I started touching it frequently, and the vision in my right eye worsened. The right double eyelid loosened, resulting in an unnatural appearance.
