I found this hospital here and was satisfied, so I’m writing this to help other people. This is an extremely personal review. It can differ from person to person.
I had been stressed about my bulbous nose my whole life, so I wanted nose surgery since middle school. And now I’m a fourth-year university student, so I figured I wouldn’t have time unless I did it during this summer break, and I looked into nose surgery. I visited 3 places in person. I did a lot of online research too. If I was going to get silicone, I wanted it custom-made, and I wanted to avoid using it if possible. So first I consulted at all places about custom silicone.
First, I was really curious about the place where YouTuber A had her nose surgery. I also have a bit of rhinitis, and the result on her looked like the kind of nose I wanted. So I dug through everything after briefly seeing the background in a YouTube video and eventually found the hospital. It wasn’t a plastic surgery clinic, but an ENT clinic, and they used an entire small building in Gangnam. The consultation was just okay. Since it was rhinitis treatment, insurance coverage was possible, so the cost was the cheapest. But since it was the first place I visited, I decided I needed to look into it more. I left without making a reservation. After I looked more into it following the consultation at the second hospital, there were quite a few reviews about side effects, and after hearing what the second hospital said about rhinitis treatment, I thought about it and felt it was kind of scam-like, so I cut it off. As expected, it really depends on the person.. That YouTuber still has a nice nose even now.
Second, I tried hard to find the hospital another YouTuber used because her nose surgery turned out amazingly well, but no one knew where it was, so I couldn’t find the hospital she used. I found another hospital that seemed kind of similar and went for a consultation. They took a CT scan and consulted with me, and because my nasal bone was badly curved from the inside, they said any hospital claiming they could straighten this nose and cure rhinitis was either lying or a surgical god. They also said that later, after nose surgery, if a place doesn’t compare the curved nose on CT and only shows you with a nasal endoscope, then they’re liars, so be careful. They explained everything really well. Before getting nose surgery, I strongly recommend going to this hospital for a consultation. After the consultation here, I got a rough sense of things. But the surgery cost was extremely expensive (800), and it felt a little more flashy than what I wanted. The director was a single-surgeon practice, and since she prioritized safety, there were a lot of things she did during surgery, but that made me feel a bit burdened. Still, it probably would have been very safe. (I don’t remember the details now, but when raising the tip of the nose, to prevent side effects she did a lot of things with cartilage and other materials and various supports.) So I was very grateful, but I didn’t decide to have surgery there. Sorry.
And then the big third place: when I first went for a consultation, there were so many reservations that they squeezed me in, so the appointment ended up being right around closing time, and when I met the director, she seemed tired and answered with a bit of no soul. It wasn’t helpful at all. Even so, the reason I chose here was the director’s career. I didn’t like the first consultation, but the director had worked as a professor at a university hospital. I figured that if she had worked at a university hospital, the chance of the surgery going badly was at least low, so I asked for a second consultation. The second time, they looked at me more carefully. And somehow I didn’t get a scammer vibe. They didn’t explain the procedure that well, but the before-and-after reviews were close to the kind of result I wanted. So I thought maybe because she was a professor, she didn’t bother explaining properly with a high-handed attitude.. But oddly enough, that made me trust it a bit more. It didn’t feel like they were trying too hard just to make money..? But honestly, everyone is trying to make money, so maybe she was just too bothered to explain. Anyway, I decided on surgery just because she had been a professor. I go to school overseas, so while the result mattered, the biggest issue was that I needed there to be no side effects later, and that was why.
But at the first consultation, I had also mentioned correcting the nasolabial angle, and when I checked on the surgery day, it wasn’t included, so when I brought it up they said they understood and added an extra charge on the spot. I really didn’t like that. So at first it was in the 4xx range, but after the added cost I paid in the 5xx range. I don’t remember the exact amount, so I’d have to check the card payment, but I’m too lazy.
The staff, except for the director, are kind but not good at their jobs. On the day of my surgery, they texted me the day before to come at 9:30, but then called me at 9:00 on the day of surgery asking why I hadn’t come when my appointment was at 9:00.. They’re kind, but it seems they’re not very good at work. Also, because of the nasolabial angle issue and because the director was so busy, they seemed a bit chaotic. So I was very worried on the day of surgery.. Also, I had this feeling that if the operating room had an interior that looked a bit like a regular hospital room, it would be a bad sign (from videos of hospitals that later had problems, many of them looked like that, and it didn’t seem like they were treating surgery cautiously or seriously). The operating room was a bit like that, so on surgery day I thought I was screwed. But since I was already lying there, I prayed and hoped it would go well. I had custom silicone bridge + tip (ear cartilage) + bulbous nose correction + nasolabial angle correction.
For reference, I didn’t tell anyone about the nose surgery and went alone. I told my mom I was going to get beautified and came back. After surgery, I showed my dad and got scolded a bit, haha.. But it was already done, so what could I do?
After the surgery, I got my medication and took a taxi home. I felt a bit dizzy right after nose surgery, and I was scared that even a little shaking would ruin the operation. But at the first consultation, they said they would remove the nasal packing the day after surgery, but maybe because I bled a bit more than expected or because I told them I live overseas and they wanted to be safer, they removed the packing 4 days later. It probably would have been fine to remove it on day 2, but it happened to overlap with the hospital holiday, so I had packing in my nose for 4 days. I seriously thought I was going to die. I couldn’t sleep properly, my throat felt like it was tearing, and when sleeping I had to keep drinking water every 2-3 hours, but with my nose blocked even drinking water was hard.. And on days 2-3 it hurt quite a lot. Probably because the anesthesia and painkillers from the first day had worn off. When I had double eyelid surgery, I thought, “This kind of plastic surgery is manageable,” but nose surgery completely erased that thought^^ I had wanted contouring surgery too, but I resolved that the rest of me would just have to live as I am.. After they removed the packing 4 days later, I felt a bit better, and after the splint came off a week later, I could go out looking like a normal person. Before that, I looked like someone who had clearly just come out of plastic surgery. The facial swelling was worse than I expected too. I guess it’s because unlike double eyelid surgery, it’s quite a big surgery. I left the country 2 weeks after my nose surgery, and even in the photos taken when I left, my face was still somewhat swollen. The facial swelling seems to have lasted more than a month.
It’s now 2 months after the surgery, and the tip of my nose is still hard, and because they put something under the nose at the nasolabial angle too, it pulls whenever I smile. The side of my nose has recently softened a bit, so now I can lightly pick my nose. My rhinitis is exactly the same, but that was impossible to correct in the first place, so I accept it. The nose shape came out exactly the way I wanted.
But I originally already had a little bridge, so even during the first consultation with the director, they said that since I already had a bridge, it would be possible to do it with dermis without silicone, but dermis would only raise it by 1 mm, so after thinking about it I went with silicone. Looking at the result, I slightly regret not choosing dermis, because it came out a bit flashier than I expected and silicone side effects are so scary.. It’s fine for now, but side effects can appear anytime..
Overall, it seems the surgery turned out well. In particular, the director said she would do the suturing very carefully, and it’s really true that I didn’t apply any scar ointment at all, yet it healed with almost no visible trace. And so far it has stayed in place without any side effects. My being very careful may also help. I’m still being extremely careful when washing my face and, in daily life, trying not to bend my head down too much,, and I absolutely do not drink alcohol. Looking at reviews, there are many cases where drinking caused side effects, and although I didn’t drink much to begin with, I’m really avoiding alcohol now. My nose is precious.. I also don’t smoke. The director said smoking and alcohol have a big impact on side effects. There is still swelling in my nose, but according to people around me with experience, it takes a full year for it all to go away.
There are so many things I have to be careful about in daily life, and there’s still this uncomfortable feeling that my nose is not really mine, so I think nose surgery is something you really have to be careful about. And it doesn’t seem like surgery automatically makes you prettier. You do get a little prettier, but your original face is still your original face. You always have to decide with that in mind. Compared with nose surgery, double eyelid surgery really feels like a procedure.. And because it really varies by person, I think you should look up a lot of other people’s reviews and ask people around you a lot too. Nose surgery seems right only for people who can endure the big cost, the big pain, and this huge discomfort and still feel they absolutely have to do it because their nose is truly a complex for them. And if you can’t quit smoking and drinking, don’t do it. The chance of side effects goes up, and if you don’t want contracture in your nose..
The first hospital was in the Gangnam area, the second was at Sinsa intersection (the director and the hospital name were the same), and the third was at Hakdong intersection (the hospital name was 5 syllables, there were 2 directors, and I went to the younger one).
