Nose Re-Surgery

About two months after partial removal at Apgujeong Ivy

It has been about two months since my partial removal at Apgujeong Ivy on August 28, so I’m posting my final review.

1. Swelling: There was little swelling immediately after surgery, and even when I met friends one or two weeks later, it was not noticeable. It seems completely gone now, but the surgeon said it will decrease further and look slimmer from the front.

2. Pain and discomfort: I don’t remember how it was after my first surgery. Since my dorsal hump was corrected again, pressing the bridge causes slight discomfort, though not exactly pain. Pulling my cheek while applying skincare makes the skin over the bridge feel slightly tight. The tip still hurts a little if I bump it without realizing I had surgery, perhaps because the septal support was removed. I also have slight pain at the tip when blowing my nose or wiping inside because of rhinitis, so I still use a cotton swab.

3. Shape: From the front, the tip felt slimmer and more defined after the first surgery, but other people cannot tell I had surgery and I am satisfied. A sharp-looking area caused by incomplete hump correction disappeared and now feels smooth. From the side, some hump remains, but it is much more corrected than my natural nose, so I am satisfied. The tip step was expected to be difficult to eliminate completely. Lowering the tip reduced it, but some remains. A small piece of septal cartilage between the hump and tip was left because removing it might worsen the step and it may have been placed for functional rather than cosmetic reasons. Only one piece of septal cartilage remains at the tip; it is lower and less pointed, but not completely round, perhaps due to the limits of my natural nose. I sometimes wonder whether I needed revision surgery rather than partial removal to achieve the exact round shape I wanted.

4. Scar: My first scar was not severe but had a visible line, and the surgeon said they would remove it if possible. A red line remains now, but it should fade. The actual scar line will probably become almost invisible.

@I’m satisfied with the partial removal, but I’m still worried that the tip looks too high and pointed from the side. Maybe the photos exaggerate it, and I cannot see my own profile properly, which is frustrating. I keep wondering whether I should have had total removal and whether it will look worse as the swelling goes down. Please look and comment whether it is just my feeling or whether others see it too.

@The tip is not soft yet because it has not been long since surgery. The surgeon said it would become 50–70% softer. If anyone here had non-dissolvable sutures placed, please share how they feel over time and whether it is really okay even when the nose moves.

@@I still have worries about my appearance after surgery, and I feel my appearance-related anxiety returning, so I may stop participating after some time. This is absolutely not because of a surgical problem!! The surgery went well; it is a personal issue… I’ll answer as many replies as possible before stopping. Ask me anything!
