Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews@jaw-review

Finished 7 years of orthodontic treatment, now in my 8th year of retainers

I’m someone who started orthodontic treatment in elementary school and got the braces removed when I graduated high school. My teeth were uneven, and I had many permanent teeth that had not grown in, so it was judged that I had a very high risk of facial asymmetry as I grew, and that’s why I got treatment.

These days, it seems many people either have surgery instead of orthodontics or get orthodontics at private dental clinics. When I was young, I feel like private dental clinics almost didn’t do orthodontics, and I thought everyone did orthodontic treatment for as long as 10 years. I remember being shocked when I saw people doing it briefly for 1 or 2 years lol Maybe because of that, I’m almost at master level when it comes to orthodontics. There are so many pros and cons I felt while doing it for a long time, but I think the cons will be more helpful than the pros, so I’ll write them down.

1. Depending on the severity, a minor surgery may be needed 2. It’s annoying to go to the hospital every time 3. Depending on the person, you may need elastics and a retainer during orthodontic treatment, which is annoying 4. You have to wear a retainer for life, and if you don’t or you neglect care, even if you had orthodontic treatment for a long time, your teeth gradually shift back toward how they were before treatment 5. The tooth roots become weaker and shallower, so your teeth may become sensitive, or if they receive impact, they may fall out easily 6. Tooth extraction is almost essential. That’s how the tooth positions can be adjusted into the empty spaces 7. If one bracket comes off, you have to go to the hospitalㅠ 8. Cost

That’s about what comes to mind right away, but of course there are advantages too! It’s more natural than surgery, and you can make detailed changes that plastic surgery cannot do. Especially for those who have a protruding mandible or maxillary/mandibular asymmetry but absolutely cannot undergo surgery, orthodontic treatment alone can be enough. And for people with uneven teeth. Tooth alignment is something surgery can’t fixㅠㅠ A protruding mandible, asymmetry, and other facial contours gradually settle in a natural way! People worry about looking sunken around the mouth, but not everyone ends up with that look. I also felt like I had that type of look, so I solved it by just getting lip filler. For a retruded chin, I think it depends on the orthodontist’s skill and the individual case. I didn’t have a retruded chin.

Costs, orthodontic methods, and orthodontic appliance materials vary greatly by hospital, and orthodontics requires long-term management, so please go to as many consultations and places as possible!!!!!!
