Hello, I started orthodontic treatment around this time last year. It wasn’t an extremely severe protruding mouth, but by my standards I felt it was protruding enough. The reason was that when I smiled, my mouth shape looked unnatural and my mouth protruded a bit like a bird’s beak when I smiled. Also, in my early 20s, I had an accident while riding a mountain bike, and because I hit my mouth hard against the bike, my tooth alignment became crooked.
And as time passed, I felt the alignment was becoming more and more misaligned, so I decided to get braces.
I had a total of 4 teeth extracted, upper and lower premolars No. 4, and for nearly 1 year I’ve been proceeding with straightening the upper and lower teeth. The extraction spaces in the upper teeth haven’t closed at all yet, and the lower teeth are less straightened than the upper teeth, but the extraction spaces are closing to some extent. And my deep bite got worse, so I was worried and asked the doctor, and they said it would all be corrected later and told me not to worry too much, so I’m trusting them..ㅋㅋ But my mouth seems to have gone in a little from how it feels to me, and since the extraction spaces in the upper teeth are still so large, I’m worried I might end up looking toothless/sunken-mouthed. When I first consulted, they said they could pull the back molars forward, so once they start pulling in earnest later, I’m going to bring it up again!
For now, my younger sibling had non-extraction orthodontic treatment here as a teenager, and it turned out so well that even though it’s far from my house, I’m diligently going there........
Other people seem to finish straightening and start pulling after 1 year, but I still haven’t had brackets attached to the two middle teeth among my lower teeth, so I think straightening will take a bit longer ㅜㅜ Even though my mouth looks like it has gone in a little now, I still have protruding lips/mouth, and my philtrum feels a bit longer like an orangutan-like mouth shape, so this awkward appearance phase is too serious and I feel depressed.. I hope they start pulling soon ㅜㅜ
