It has been 2 and a half years since I had LASEK, and first of all, I am satisfied just with not having to wear glasses. I had high myopia and my eyes were really bad, so the cost of glasses and contact lenses was higher. But honestly, things like dry eye syndrome or glare have not improved. Since I use my phone and computer often, it feels like my vision is gradually getting worse too. My retina was not sufficient, so I had no choice but to get LASEK. The place where I had eye surgery was a large hospital in Gangnam, and they said there was an affiliated discount, so I did it without going around comparing clinics. Honestly, I do regret that I should have looked around more. The place I went to was really factory-style, so I did not particularly expect or receive any follow-up care, and the surgery was just over extremely quickly, like a factory conveyor moving along, one after another, whoosh whoosh. Making an appointment also does not really mean much, because even if you book, there are so many people that you basically have to wait 1 or 2 hours. And I do not know if it was because I had LASEK, but right after surgery it really hurt so much. If even a little light came in, it felt like my eyes were tearing apart, so tears kept streaming down. Even with a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, light still came in, and I thought I was going to die. I think it was at least fortunate that I went with my parents. Thinking about taking the bus home in that state is awful. I could not see, and my eyeballs just stung.. I think it lasted like that for about 3 days. During that time, I could not even think about looking at anything and just put in the prescribed drops diligently. Around days 4 and 5, it felt like my vision was gradually coming back. The hospital texted me saying it had been a few months or 1 year since surgery and told me to come for a checkup, but they did not do anything. Just a vision test and that was it. Honestly, LASEK did not completely correct my myopia. The hospital says myopia is originally hard to correct well, but even after surgery, my dry eye syndrome became worse, glare at night is severe, and myopia still remains. It just really feels like only my visual acuity went up. Still, it is convenient not to wear glasses or contact lenses, so I do not regret it that much.
