After having natural adhesion double eyelid surgery + epicanthoplasty in 2020, it loosened almost completely before even 3 years had passed, so after much thought I decided to have revision surgery. I should have known what condition my eyes were in, what style suited me, and whether I had a lot or little fat layer before having surgery, but I think the mistake was just going to a place where my friend had good results. So this time, I set firm criteria, toured clinics, and then decided. The firm criteria were: 1. Not a factory-style clinic (even better if it was a single-doctor clinic) 2. Recommends only necessary procedures 3. Of course, a board-certified plastic surgeon + opened for over 10 years I set these criteria and made a shortlist.
<Consultation> After going around several places starting from Sinsa-dong, I felt like they were all similar + I was drained... This clinic was the fifth one. It was hard to judge for myself whether the photos I brought would suit my face or not (because I brought photos of eyes that looked pretty), but as soon as I sat down, the director had me show my forehead, looked at my face shape, nose, and mouth, and recommended a line that would likely suit me. I had gone to several places and none had made an impact, but here was the first time I thought, “Oh..?” Also, some clinics recommended ptosis correction or said it was necessary, but no matter how I thought about it, I felt it would be better not to do ptosis correction on my face (in fact, when you look at the after-surgery photos, my irises are fully visible with incision alone). The director here said I did not need ptosis correction, so I left with about 80% certainty. The price was not the most expensive, but it was still a bit pricey? However, maybe because I had failed once, I started to lean more toward it, thinking that when it comes to touching my face, I should not try to save money. Also, I liked that the desk did not pressure me to pay a deposit. Other plastic surgery clinics used the approach of saying that even if I put down 100,000 won, they would refund it anytime, but here, because the deposit was non-refundable, the consultant told me to think carefully before deciding, which made me trust them more.
<Day of surgery> On the day itself, I brought photos of areas I wanted to improve further and explained them, and we compromised within a reasonable range when setting the line. Thinking about it now, if I had insisted on the photos I brought, I would have ended up with a flashy, intense double eyelid line on an Asian-looking face, but thanks to that, I think it turned out naturally well.
Plus, what bothered me at other places was that they used sedation anesthesia. During my first surgery, I was out of it and so drowsy from the anesthesia, but they kept telling me to open and close my eyes... But I could not even tell whether I was opening my eyes properly or not.. So I really liked that this place used only local anesthesia. During the actual surgery too, when opening and closing my eyes, I could control my strength while opening them (the director asked in detail, like “open your eyes wider” / “open them with strength,” etc.), and maybe thanks to that, despite it being incisional + revision surgery, the major swelling all went down in 3 weeks and I was able to do all my social activities. A coworker even asked whether I had the kind of skin that heals well, saying it was the first time they had seen incisional double eyelid surgery swell so little haha... Seeing that I swelled less than during my first natural adhesion surgery and the swelling went down faster, I think not using sedation anesthesia played a bigger role than my innate tissue quality. Now that it has been a little over a month, except for the bruising, almost all the swelling is gone! I had worried a lot because I had several schedules after surgery, but if I had known I would swell this little and the swelling would go down this quickly, I think I should have just done it without worrying.
