I've recently been looking hard into functional rhinoplasty, and since I'm active in this community, I thought anyone might have a lot of concerns, so I'm writing a review? once..! This is based on my experience and has a lot of subjective opinions, so I hope you'll take it just as a reference.
I had a malocclusion where my lower teeth came farther forward, and because of that, although it wasn't severe, my jaw protruded. They call it an underbite.. So appearance-wise, people said my first impression looked a bit sharp or scary, and functionally, it was hard for me to eat noodles. Since my upper and lower teeth couldn't cut the noodles, I had a habit of cutting them with my tongue.. My teeth were fairly even, so I didn't need orthodontics because of tooth alignment issues, but I was told I ultimately had to get double-jaw surgery, so I had orthodontic treatment for 2 years and then had surgery.
Before surgery, they secured the blood that would be used during the operation, tested me with an antibiotic injection the day before, and on the day of surgery I walked up onto the operating table.. I lay down on the operating table waiting for anesthesia, then I was anesthetized and fell asleep, and when I woke up the surgery was over. I opened my eyes half-asleep to my parents waking me up, with my jaw throbbing, and maybe because the operating room temperature was a bit low, I was so cold when I woke up. I was hospitalized for about 5 days, receiving painkillers and proper disinfection care, and after getting follow-up care as an outpatient, I think I did about 2 more weeks of follow-up care at home. The hard part during recovery was not being able to eat rice/meals. Eating only liquid food every day got tiring.. Still, I had the surgery done well back then, and I've been living well without any major problems up to now! Thanks to that, I've been living while enjoying delicious food deliciously!
Based on my experience, I absolutely do not recommend it for cosmetic purposes.. because it's a surgery with a huge burden... Unless you have functional problems or are under major appearance-related stress, I don't recommend it :( The recovery process was hard too, and in life it's better not to have surgery if you can avoid it..! For those who need double-jaw surgery, I hope you look into it well, prepare well, and have a successful surgery with a good doctor :)
