1. Reason for removal - 11 years ago, I only wanted to improve my hump nose without any thought of making my nose higher, but I was told silicone absolutely had to be inserted, so I had the surgery without really knowing anything - Closed rhinoplasty with hump correction, silicone, and ear cartilage - On my round face, only the nasal tip looked pointed, so it did not suit me, and there was cartilage show-through (I heard “what is that on your nasal tip?” a lot) - Psychologically, even just hearing talk about my nose made me flinch and was hard for me
2. Removal clinic - Got information from a community and had consultations at two places - Clinic A: Straight silicone, with thick silicone extending to the nasal tip; remove the silicone and refine the nasal bridge; because the alar cartilage was compressed by the silicone and ear cartilage, the nose could become depressed, so cartilage repositioning; no inflammation, so no capsule removal; proceed with closed surgery - Clinic B: Said there was L-shaped silicone (I said that was probably not right because I had never heard of that material even during surgery, and then they corrected it to straight silicone); asked whether it was really operated on by a specialist; said the nasal tip would have no problem returning to my original nose, but the nasal bridge seemed to have been shaved down a lot, so it needed to be filled; closed surgery was possible, but recommended open surgery to do it more definitively; capsule removal - I was torn because the potentially problematic parts pointed out by the two clinics were different. The price was the same. I wanted closed surgery if possible, and decided to proceed with removal surgery at the clinic I had been more drawn to even before going for the consultation
3. Removal review - Right after removal, when I touched my nasal tip, I could feel the alar cartilage slightly separated like my old nose (what I wanted) - In the post-surgery explanation, they said the silicone on the nasal dorsum had calcified, so they removed the capsule in that area, refined the hump, released and repositioned the tied nasal tip cartilage, and as expected the silicone at the nasal tip was the thickest. They said the glabella and nasal dorsum were not very high, so it probably would not drop drastically - On day 4 after removal, it has almost returned to my natural nose. The major swelling has gone down, and there is only slight yellow bruising. Since swelling from my original nose surgery also went down slowly over more than a year, I expect this will go down slowly too - For now, I feel psychologically stable, relieved, and reassured that I removed the calcified silicone quickly.
