I’m timid, so I kept hesitating about vision correction surgery until my 30s. When I wore contact lenses, my dryness got severe, so I decided to have surgery. Smile LASIK seems to be the trend, but after searching intensively on a Naver cafe famous for vision correction surgery, I thought LASEK was the stable method, so I was only considering LASEK as the surgical method.
I had eye exams + consultations at a total of five places in Seoul and outside Seoul, and each had its pros and cons. At one clinic, they said only LASEK was possible because of my corneal thickness, while at another clinic, they said Smile LASIK or LASIK, which require much more corneal ablation, were also possible, so I actually got more confused. They also recommended an additional procedure to strengthen the cornea, so I hesitated. (The price difference was also over 1 million won at most.)
In the end, I had it done at a regional clinic that was close to home, where the doctor had a lot of experience, and where they only recommended LASEK surgery and did not recommend any other procedures at all. (However, the doctor had recently opened an independent clinic, so there were not many reviews.)
I had surgery using the Contoura LASEK method, and the recovery process was much more painful and difficult than what I had heard and imagined During recovery, my vision fluctuated, so I was worried, but now, about 6 months later, my vision measured 0.1 -> 1.0 / 1.2. However, dry eye, the biggest side effect, has definitely gotten worse, and I feel much more tired when looking at a monitor or text.
Still, there are many aspects I’m more satisfied with than when I wore glasses, so I’m fairly satisfied!
