Cheekbone Surgery Review

I had cheekbone reduction surgery last Monday. For now, my stitches haven’t been removed yet and I still have quite a lot of swelling around the nasolabial fold area, but the cheekbones that used to protrude have gone in noticeably, so I’m satisfied.

I’m writing this review in case it helps people who are scheduled for cheekbone surgery or are considering it. (Warning: long post)

Pain: Since I had general anesthesia, the sore throat on the first and second days was a bit difficult.. Kind of like having a bad throat cold? I also had a runny nose occasionally, but they told me not to blow my nose, so I couldn’t clear it properly Also, because there was an intraoral incision, the upper lip area felt a little tight. But this was more uncomfortable than painful. The actual cheekbone area that was operated on didn’t hurt at all.

Inconveniences: First, there are restrictions on eating? I bought and drank New Care, but I’m someone who takes food seriously.. I really wanted to eat tasty food, and it got increasingly tiring because I got sick of it.. Many other reviews said it was hard to open the mouth, but strangely, I could open my mouth well from the first day. Still, I was scared of nonunion, so I deliberately tried not to chew and not to open my mouth. Also, maybe because it hasn’t been long since my surgery, when I chew something there’s a slight sound from my right cheekbone, and sensation still hasn’t returned around the right 45-degree cheekbone? near the eye area.. It bothers me, but they said it can happen during the recovery period, so I’m going to ask about it at my follow-up this time. Another inconvenience is that my facial expressions still look unnatural? Since the nasolabial fold area is swollen, especially when I smile, I can’t smile brightly and can only manage a gentle smile.

Swelling: Maybe because I only had one type of procedure, my swelling wasn’t that severe. It was worst on day 3, and I had no bruising. There was no swelling up to the cheekbones, only the cheek area was swollen, so everyone thought I had had wisdom teeth removed. There isn’t much swelling, but even now on day 9, I still have swelling around the nasolabial folds.. Before surgery, my cheekbones protruded and I didn’t have much facial fat, so the cheek area was sunken in, a typical peanut-shaped face. Now because of the swelling my cheeks look plump, so I keep hearing that I look cute.

There is still swelling and discomfort, but I was so stressed when I had cheekbones, so now that they’re gone, I really like it. My impression before was a bit sharp and older-looking because the cheekbones protruded and I had no cheek fat, but now the cheekbones are gone and, although it’s partly due to swelling, I also have cheek volume so I’m satisfied. Even if I went back, I think I’d still do the surgery.

But! For people getting surgery not because of protruding cheekbones but because they want a smaller face, I think cheekbone reduction alone has a somewhat minimal effect.. It might be good to think it over once more..
