I had alar reduction last May, and this is a review of what I’ve felt after almost a year. And right now, I’ve contacted the hospital where I originally had it done because I want revision surgery with an external incision hahaha
First of all, my nose wasn’t a big nose, but my nasal bridge was high and only my alar base was wide. During consultations, I found out that my alae were jar-shaped, asymmetrical, and that my nasal wings were on the slightly thicker side.. Since the rest of my nose was fine aside from the alar base, I think I was more hung up on my alar base myself.
I went around to 4 places famous for alar reduction or rhinoplasty. Except for 1 place known for internal incisions, the other 3 places didn’t do internal incisions at all. They said the reason they don’t do it is because it basically has almost no effect haha..
In the end, I also wanted a natural-looking nose and was worried about scarring, so I decided on an internal incision. Taking my nasal asymmetry into account, they would reduce it as much as possible! But they repeatedly told me that even if they did the maximum, the effect would be subtle.
I’m really sensitive to pain, so until 2 months, my nose hurt and felt uncomfortable. Until then, the swelling hadn’t gone down, and above all, my nostrils became uneven, so I worried that it had failed, but around 3 months, my nose found its balance and became a pretty nose I was satisfied with. I didn’t feel stressed when taking selfies either, and even though only my alar base became smaller, I was very satisfied that it had the effect of making my nose itself look more defined and smaller.
Once the swelling went down completely and I reached the 1-year mark, I felt disappointed because I remembered when my alar base looked even smaller. It’s not that the surgery had no effect. It’s just that when I look in the mirror, I wonder if my nose has gone back, but in photos it is a little different from before surgery haha
So as I said at the beginning, this time I want to have surgery with an external incision. Rather than the previous surgery having failed, it feels like it gave me confidence that I can reduce my alar base more through this.. haha.. Of course, since there are many side effects and failure cases with alar reduction, I am worriedㅠ
