After a lot of thought, I had everything removed last week I got my splint taken off today, and although I’m still very swollen, I’m writing this in the hope that it may help even a little!
*First surgery: functional rhinoplasty (deviated septum + rhinitis), cosmetic rhinoplasty (hump shaving, lateral osteotomy, septal extension, septal cartilage grafting, probably cartilage tying)
I had my first surgery 6 months ago, and it was implant-free surgery Even though it was implant-free, the hardness of the nasal tip and the fixed feeling from the septal extension were so uncomfortable that I thought about removal, and to be honest, I didn’t like the shape either. After the first surgery, because of columellar deviation and cartilage show-through, I had an early correction after just 2 weeks, but although the columellar deviation became less severe, it was still there. I visited the first surgery hospital several times and repeatedly said I wanted removal, and the surgery hospital said that if I wanted, removal was possible at any time and that they had operated so it would not collapse even after removal, so I shouldn’t worry. However, they said there was no major issue with the current shape, so let’s watch it for at least 6 months. When it was almost 6 months, I went for a consultation at the surgery hospital, and they said if I wanted removal, they could set a date right then, but for some reason I just didn’t feel like getting it removed there, so I looked into other hospitals. Still, what I felt relieved about was that the first surgery hospital said it would be okay even if it was removed, did not try to stop me from full removal or say my nose would collapse, and said one or two people a year want removal and that removal was possible, speaking favorably about removal, so I was glad. I think I went to about four hospitals about removal, and honestly, none of them really recommended removal. They said there was no shape-related problem and no implant either, so I should live with it a bit longer and think about it slowly. But the fixed feeling from the septal extension every time I smiled and the hardness of the nasal tip stressed me out so much, and it seemed like this was something I would just get used to and live with, not that the hardness would loosen up or anything. If I had at least liked the shape, I would have endured it and lived with it, but that wasn’t the case either, so I thought there was no reason to live while tolerating this discomfort. But since I regretted the surgery so much, I thought that if I regretted even the removal, I really wouldn’t be able to endure it, so I thought about it a lot. After much thought, I had it removed last week, and I got the splint off today. Even though only the nasal tip was removed, the bridge is swollen too, so my nose has no shape haha. Still, I don’t regret the removal so far. The foreign-body sensation is definitely gone, and since it hasn’t been long since surgery, the columella area still feels firm, but my nose definitely feels lighter. I felt like my breathing was somehow worse than before, but now I feel like I can breathe better too. I hated that my nostrils had become long like the number 11, but they have become rounder, and the nasal tip is round too. They said correcting the deviated columella was not the goal of the surgery, so I didn’t expect it, but the columella is straighter than when it was the operated nose. They said I’m very swollen now, so I’ll have to keep watching!
When I went around for hospital consultations, what most of them told me was that my original nose had a drooping tip with a hump, so the chance of it turning up was low. I thought the hump had been shaved too much and made it broad and flat, but everyone said there was no problem with the nasal bridge. From the time I was searching online, there was a hospital I wanted to have surgery at. To be honest, the consultation with the director wasn’t amazingly good or especially memorable, but they said there were several people who had surgery at the hospital where I had my first surgery and came to this hospital for removal, so they knew well how that hospital operates and told me not to worry. They also said that the person was not someone who operated messily inside the nose, and the actual surgery matched the surgical record exactly. They said the condition inside my nose was not good because of scar tissue, but there was no saddle nose due to excessive septal cartilage harvesting, and the alar cartilage was not severed. The surgery was done with 5 minutes of sedation + local anesthesia, and I think it took about 1 hour and 30 minutes. I didn’t feel any pain at all, and after waking from sedation, I was fully clear-headed. It was fascinating! I don’t think the swelling was that severe even during my first surgery, but recovery after removal does seem faster than after the first surgery.
The operated nose was definitely more raised and pretty in terms of shape, but I removed it because I just wanted to live comfortably even if it looked less pretty. I’m worried about the shape and the contraction period going forward, but I hope it recovers well without any problems. Right now my nose is swollen and has no contour, so it really is quite unattractive haha
It was a 6-month period that was so hard I felt like I could die. Of course, the emotional wounds have absolutely not fully healed yet, but still, I feel a little more at ease. I received help and comfort from many people I met in this community, so I want to say I’m truly grateful to them as well. To those who may still be struggling, since I’m not free from it yet either, I want to pat you gently and say let’s hang in there together. I still regret and feel upset about having had nose surgery, but for now I hope I recover safely! I hope this helps many people
