I had surgery in 2019. It wasn’t a severe malocclusion, but I was concerned about a protruding lower jaw and asymmetry. After injuring my jaw when I was young, my jaw shifted to the right, and although I did orthodontic treatment, nothing changed that much. In my case, I’d say it leaned more toward cosmetic purposes than treatment purposes. I really think you need to think very carefully before doing double jaw surgery simply for cosmetic reasons. It’s a very difficult surgery to recommend for cosmetic purposes.. Anyway, it’s been about 5 years since I had double jaw surgery, so to write a review:
At first, it was honestly like hell when I couldn’t eat properly and could only drink New Care. I also wore a compression band.. used ice packs.. The swelling and bruising were so severe that it was really hard. But now that time has passed, the hard parts feel so far away.. haha
I did not remove the pins. I was scared that it would be too hard again after pin removal surgery.. Well, they would show on an X-ray, but I’m living fine.
Since the cosmetic purpose was a bit bigger than the treatment purpose, I’m satisfied because my facial shape changed a lot. When I look at old photos of myself, they feel awkward.
As for side effects, the sensation around my gums is a bit dull.. If normal sensation is 100, it feels like about 70 has come back? But other than that, the skin sensation around my mouth and things like chewing are okay, so I’m living fine. Ah And I’m also starting to feel my skin sagging a little now.. The cheek fat on my face has drooped compared with the early period after surgery
