I always only lurked and asked questions, but now that it’s been a little under 3 weeks, I’m posting a review for everyone who, like me before, is considering rhinoplasty with donated dermis!!
I originally had severe rhinitis, so I was only looking into rhinitis surgery~ Plastic surgery? I had never even imagined it in my life. But while looking into rhinitis surgery, I naturally found out that it could be done together with cosmetic surgery, and from then on I researched a ton online, on YouTube, and so on. In the process, I saw many posts from people struggling with inflammation, contracture, and things like that, and I suddenly got really scared, so I became interested in implant-free cosmetic surgery.
Since I was going under sedation anyway, I thought it would be fine as long as I didn’t end up looking worse, so without having big ambitions for a dramatic look, I decided not to use silicone and to use donated dermis instead. I consulted with the director, and he said that with my original nasal framework, donated dermis would be enough, so I think I had the surgery without worrying too much. What I had done was hump correction, nasal tip elevation, trimming the bones on both sides of the nose, and balancing the nasal bridge and tip... hmm, I guess I pretty much did everything.
Anyway! Looking at it now, I’m satisfied with the shape of my nose, and I think I’ll continue to be satisfied! I’ll tell you why. First, everyone probably knows that donated dermis is said to have a lower absorption rate than autologous dermis, but that absorption still exists. But for those trying to avoid silicone because of concerns about inflammation, the bigger worry is probably, “What if my nose becomes uneven?” I was also really worried about that, so I asked every hospital I went to for consultations, and they said that if the bone is left uneven when correcting the hump, it will still look uneven even after absorption, but if it’s smoothed neatly, there’s essentially no chance of that happening. And they said that if I become unhappy because the nasal height gets too low, there are many non-incisional ways to raise just the nasal bridge/dorsum later, so I feel very reassured and have zero worries for the future. If it had been silicone, I think my fear of inflammation would have been huge...ㅜㅜ I’m satisfied that I addressed my chronic rhinitis and also had cosmetic surgery with donated dermis, which has much less concern about side effects, and the shape came out pleasantly too! It looks natural, but also maybe a little sharp ㅎ.ㅎ
My eyes originally had a sleepy-looking shape, so I think there’s still a lot of swelling left in my eyes, and I’ll have to watch them a bit longer haha. Still, I think they’ll turn out well!! Please pray for me!!
