Surgery received -> zygoma rotation, chin reduction and advancement, square jaw reduction
It was surgery I had about 3 years ago, so I am not exact, but my original face was roughly a recessed chin + long face + slight zygoma prominence. I had a total of 2 surgeries: Around March 2021 -> First chin surgery (advancement, T-shaped osteotomy), square jaw (cortical bone resection and overall shaving) Around September 2021 -> Second surgery: removal of the chin fixation screws, overall second shaving of the jawline, zygoma rotation
For the square jaw, on the doctor's recommendation, I did not remove the angles and only had cortical bone resection and shaving done (the cost was the same as square jaw reduction) Because it was only shaving, recovery was a bit faster, but when looking at my face from the front, the square jaw did get slimmer, though the distinctive protrusion of a square jaw did not disappear completely. If I had to do it again, I think I would have it cut. The zygoma was done about 6 months later when the chin screws were removed, and they said chin shaving is not usually recommended on its own. Still, since they were removing the screws anyway and going in through an intraoral incision, they did the shaving too. I think it was around 750,000 won? (I'm fuzzy on the details; I'm not sure whether that was the standalone cost or included screw removal.) The zygoma was in the high 2 million won range, and the first chin + square jaw was in the 8 million won range (it's been a long time, so I am not certain; please use this as reference only)
In conclusion, I am satisfied with the surgery. Of course, there were minor side effects, though nothing major. Still, since it was a bone-shaving surgery, I had worried a lot, and compared with how I feared the nerves might not come back if something went wrong, I think the side effects were not severe. The time it takes for the nerves to recover differs from person to person, but for me, around 1 month later it started to tingle like the nerves were coming back, and after 3 months I felt like I no longer had to worry about the nerves.
And the side effects I am experiencing now, 3 years later, are: 1. A slight secondary angle caused by chin advancement - The advancement was not large (1 to 2 mm?). So other people probably would not notice it, but there was a secondary angle that I could tell only by touching it, and it stayed for quite a long time (I checked again just now and it feels clean now? I could feel it before, but I do not know whether it has recovered. Still, because it was a side effect that worried me quite a lot during the 1 to 2 years after surgery, I am writing it down first.) 2. The chin is weak - This is unavoidable. That part was reduced, and even now, 3 years later, it is possible to rest my chin on my hand or rub it strongly, but I am afraid that a strong impact such as falling would cause major damage. (Because of that, I avoid rough activities, and even on X-ray the cut area is visible.) 3. A tingling/numb feeling in the left zygoma area? - There was a problem with this from the time of surgery. During the second surgery, after I wore the bandage that fixed the zygoma, my chin hurt. As expected, after removing the bandage, a bruise-like mark formed under my chin, and the left zygoma kept feeling tingly and numb. I informed the hospital about this, but they said the zygoma would not come loose and to keep watching it, and that the area under the chin would improve with time, so I think it was left unresolved without a separate CT scan. At the time, the scar would not fade easily and the tingling/numbness was also strongly noticeable, so I was very stressed, worried that the zygoma might not have adhered properly and had come loose. Then I got busy with work and forgot about it for about 1 to 2 years, and at some point the scar under my chin disappeared completely, but the tingling/numbness remained. So a few months ago I had a CT scan and was examined at the hospital, and the zygoma had not come loose. The cause is not clear, but they said it might be because of the screws and that it would improve if the screws were removed, which reassured me. 4. Sagging skin (the biggest side effect) - I hoped the skin would not sag, but mine did Of course, compared with my original face, it really is much smaller, and the sagging skin is also smaller than before... but even so, I have tried InMode and fat-dissolving injections because of this, and did not see a big effect I am living with the thought that it cannot be helped. It is not a serious side effect like nerve damage, after all.
