Before before before after after after Since I was young, my lower jaw was developed, so my upper and lower teeth had a crossbite. I had consultations at 3 orthodontic clinics, but all of them said I was a surgical case, so I waited until I became an adult.
After becoming an adult, I found out about Y Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery on YouTube and had a consultation. I consulted at other places too, but I kept thinking about Y Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery because the price was reasonable and they did not push unnecessary surgery. So I decided on Y Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery!
My plan was presurgical orthodontics followed by surgery, and I had two-jaw surgery + 2 types of facial contouring (chin tip, square jaw).
Day 1 Before surgery, I met the manager and the director and heard an explanation about the surgery. I felt this during my first consultation too, but the director really says only what is necessary and realistic. That made me trust the director even more going into surgery.
After the surgery, the director came to my hospital room, checked my condition, and talked to me about the postoperative period. My mom arrived late, and the director and manager explained the surgery so kindly that my mom said she was very grateful and touched. Also, because the CCTV could be watched in real time, my older sister watched it. She said that although she knew nothing about two-jaw surgery, she could see that the director worked quickly and was very good at surgery. So after surgery, I could feel reassured and focus only on recovery.
Right after surgery, I had to expel the gas, so I had to take deep breaths, but at that time I was extremely sleepy and my eyes kept closing, so my family woke me up. Then pain beyond imagination gradually comes to the face. The pain of the facial bones being aligned again is not easy.. It hurts more than you think.. Dawn is really hard. The throat and nose swell a lot, so without a humidifier you cannot breathe, even sitting is hard, and the facial pain continues. But throughout the night, a nurse came every hour to check my condition and change the ice packs, so I was able to endure it.
Day 2 Once the urinary catheter is removed and the blood drain is taken out, it gets a bit better. The facial pain gradually decreases, but the face starts swelling a lot. On day 2, they teach you how to practice while wearing the wafer. They also told me to walk around the hospital a lot if my condition was okay, so I walked for 10 minutes every hour. For me, moving helped my condition recover more than staying still. Personally, when drinking water, a Daiso sauce bottle was more useful than a paper cup. I recommend bringing one if you are going to have surgery. The director kept coming in from time to time to check my condition and also explained things well to my guardian, so my family could take care of me with peace of mind.
Discharge and Life Afterward Lastly, the director came, checked my condition, and told me how it would be good to live once I went home. I received a prescription and was discharged home. From that day until day 5, the swelling was unbelievably severe. I would wake up at dawn from the feeling that my face was swelling. Because I had to sleep sitting up, it was not easy to sleep through the night. I could barely eat only liquids.
Still, I made sure to walk for at least 30 minutes a day! I gradually increased the walking time, and walking is the best for reducing swelling. I absolutely, absolutely recommend doing it diligently!!
Honestly, until day 6 I regretted it a little, but from day 7 my condition recovered a lot and the swelling started going down, and from then on I thought I did so, so, so well to have the surgery. I’m now in week 2, and my family also often says while looking at my face that my face shape has become really pretty and that the surgery went really well. Every time that happens, I feel truly grateful to the director and think I am so, so happy and lucky to have had surgery with the director.
I truly had a severe complex since I was very young, had not even 1 positive thought about my face, and got annoyed every time I looked in the mirror, but now when I look in the mirror, I am truly happy. For those worried about a protruding jaw, I think it would be good to consider two-jaw surgery positively. It costs a lot and is a scary surgery, but I truly have no regrets, my satisfaction is high, and I think I can live the time ahead confidently!
