Basically, I’m writing with the idea that double eyelid surgery seems relatively safe.. I’ll write this pretty casually.
When I was 20 (13 years ago), I went to a clinic with a friend without thinking much and ended up booking double eyelid surgery. I didn’t have much fat on my upper eyelids, so they said simply using the suture method would be enough, so I had it done (non-incisional), and there was barely any swelling. From what I remember, I had surgery on Thursday, and by the following Monday, if I wore glasses, people wouldn’t notice unless they looked closely haha I wondered if the line would become too small, but an outline crease didn’t really suit me in the first place (the distance between my eyebrows and eyes is on the narrow side), and my glabella area is also relatively narrow, so I liked the natural line and was satisfied.
I remember paying around 1.1 million won? It was ㅇㅈ near Gangnam Station.
Then from around 2015? (5 years after the first surgery), one side slowly started loosening, and by around 2016, the outer end of one eye had almost come undone, so I decided on revision surgery. I debated whether to do it at the original ㅇㅈ clinic (since it’s a large hospital, the same doctor probably wouldn’t be there.. and because so much time had passed, there was no aftercare coverage or discount at all) or somewhere else. When I went for consultations, some places recommended epicanthoplasty, but as I said earlier, my glabella area is narrow, so I didn’t do it ㅠ (my eyes are horizontally long) I just had it sutured again at the original place after 6 years.. Even though 5-6 years had passed, I remember the price still being 1.1 million? (no change)
When I first had it sutured, they said my eyelid skin was thin and had little fat, so it wouldn’t loosen, but it did. I asked, “Do I need an incisional method this time?” and they said there was no need, so I had it sutured again (non-incisional), and again there was almost no swelling.
During the revision, they said they would make it firm so it wouldn’t loosen this time. The time from the first surgery to the revision was 5-6 years, and now the time from the revision to now has also passed (7 years), but it still hasn’t loosened and seems okay..
They said the reason it loosened after the first surgery was that my Mongolian fold has strong tension, and especially the stronger side seemed to pull down on the crease, causing only that side to loosen. So I thought about whether to do epicanthoplasty or something to release the Mongolian fold, but my glabella area is narrow.. ㅠ
The before photos are too old, and even the photos after the first surgery are all too low qualityㅠㅠ They were taken with an app, but I’ll at least upload photos after the revision.. These are photos from about 1?2 years after the revision.
My personal tip for double eyelid surgery is, first of all, don’t get greedy.. And if it feels too awkward at first + feels like it’s loosening too quickly, eyelash extensions or a lash perm can be good too. People may think, “Something looks different?” but then assume it’s because of the lashes lol, and it also hides the swollen crease haha Also, it supports the force of opening the eyes, so for people like me whose crease loosened early at first, I think it helps you worry a bit less!
