My honest review of double-jaw surgery, seriously

Before before before after after after <Before surgery> I could only see myself in the mirror, so I thought it wasn’t severe when seen from the front, but boys started making fun of me in middle school. Since I was young, whenever my mom took me to the dentist to try to get orthodontic treatment for me, they said this would need surgery after I was fully grown, and dental clinics wouldn’t take the case. I got through my teens like that, and when I turned 20, I was told for the first time that my occlusion could be aligned with orthodontics. After 2 years of orthodontic treatment, my bite did align, but it started shifting again; my front teeth stopped touching again, and the way my left and right molars bit together was different. I lived like that for another 10 years and had given up on my appearance, but then even as an adult, someone started making fun of my looks... I thought I had forgotten all the wounds from childhood, but they came back again, I got angry, and I didn’t want to live my whole life as someone who shrinks whenever appearance comes up, so I decided to have surgery! I did do it partly out of anger, too For the hospital, I looked around on YouTube, but there were so many videos that felt too promotional that I passed on them. Then I saw videos and Shorts from Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and the patients’ after-results were exactly my style, so I immediately booked a consultation and proceeded. After the consultation, the consultant was kind, and the director was very much a capital T type, saying only exactly what was needed, so I trusted them even more! Above all, there were many reviews on the website, and while reading them I thought, ah, this is a safe hospital, and I felt reassured. <Day of surgery> That day, I went to the hospital alone without any nerves, but everything moved along so quickly that I was like uh... uh... and when I came to my senses, I was lying on the operating table. It was my first time under general anesthesia, so I was like ugh, that medicine smell, and when I opened my eyes, I was sitting on the hospital bed.. When I opened my eyes, I was in a state of where am I.. who am I, and my whole jaw started hurting as if someone had hit it. I was alone without a guardian, and after I came to my senses and pressed the call bell, the nurse came and said the surgery went well, that I needed to breathe deeply to expel the anesthetic gas and must not fall asleep, and that I might feel cold, then left. Because of the anesthetic gas, I kept getting sleepy, and I couldn’t swallow saliva. There were drains in my mouth, and one side of my nose was connected to a blood line too, so breathing itself was difficult. Ah, there was an oxygen cannula in my nose! At first, because I had the oxygen cannula, I could breathe slightly through my nose, but after it was removed, I couldn’t breathe through my nose at all, so I breathed through my mouth. My mouth was dry, my throat hurt, and it was pain I had never experienced before in my life. At 8 p.m. they gave me water to drink, but whenever I tried, I choked, so I just wet my mouth and failed It felt like I had completely forgotten how to send liquid down my throat. When I choked and coughed, nosebleed flowed out I repeated sleeping and waking, sleeping and waking, but still managed to sleep fairly well in 2-hour intervals. <Days 2-3> In the morning, they removed the blood line from my nose and the urinary catheter, and I waited for the director while receiving laser treatment. The director came and removed the drains inside my mouth, and the feeling was seriously strange It didn’t hurt, but even thinking back, ugh. I still couldn’t breathe, and breathing was actually harder than on day 1. Fortunately, once the drains were removed, my mouth could close, so drinking water and swallowing saliva went well. My face swelled up a lot. From then on, my face started swelling steadily. I was discharged on the morning of day 3. You should definitely call a guardian. You need to buy medicine, call a taxi, and because you’re in pain, even carrying your bags is hard I finally got home, but my condition was the worst. I couldn’t talk, and my face was so swollen I couldn’t do anything. For meals, only drinks were possible. I couldn’t even gargle vigorously inside my mouth; I could only let it flow around. <Days 4-6> Because it overlapped with Lunar New Year, after being discharged I rode in my dad’s car that evening for about an hour to my family home. Surprisingly, riding in a car for about an hour was doable. When my nose was blocked, I sprayed Otrivin, and if it still didn’t open, a few sprays of Coen would run down and open my nose a little. After discharge, my face kept swelling. I used ice packs frequently and kept wearing the compression band. I didn’t walk outside; I kept walking around inside the house. My face changed so much and swelled so much that my family was asking who this was. Until one week, I couldn’t brush my teeth, so it felt really unpleasant and miserable For meals, I was drinking New Care, but it really didn’t suit me, so I switched to Mediwel, and that at least tasted decent. From day 5, I did warm compresses. Until day 4, when I woke up in the morning, my jaw was swollen tight and pulling, which was hard, but strangely on day 5 it felt less bad than the day before. <Days 7-8, first appointment> I went back to my place in Seoul, and it became the day of my first appointment. Around this time, although my nose kept running, my nose opened up. So the suffering from breathing disappeared. Until the first appointment, I couldn’t brush my teeth, so I hadn’t removed the wafer even once or touched the mouth area, and when the director touched it to disinfect it, it was the first time, so it hurt. After disinfection and laser treatment, I was told I could now brush gently, so that day I went straight home, removed the wafer, and brushed my teeth. I felt like I could fly! Ah, I was wearing a mask, but my reflection in the window looked like my proportions had become so much better than before <Days 9-15, second appointment> Once my nose opened and I could brush my teeth, you can consider the hard part basically over. After I could brush, I ate ice cream too, and I didn’t blend my porridge. I really wanted to chew, but I watched double-jaw surgery vlogs and diligently found only foods I could eat. Being able to brush my teeth was heaven. On day 14, I finally went to have the stitches removed. Disinfection had hurt, so I went mentally prepared, but stitch removal hurt less than I expected. I had heard it hurts when they remove the middle part, but for me the middle and sides felt similar. Only the lower front-teeth area hurt a bit.. They also showed me the X-ray, and although it was because of swelling, I thought, wow, they cut this much bone After removing the stitches, I ate bread, broke up ramen and cooked it, and melted snacks against the roof of my mouth.. Now I feel like I can live! I want the swelling to go down quickly so I can start orthodontic treatment too
