Before <before surgery> After <day 1> After <day 3> After <day 4> After <day 5> After <day 6> After <week 2> After <week 2>1. Why I decided to have surgery - Since middle school, I had severe appearance-related stress because of noticeable facial asymmetry and malocclusion, and I felt discomfort when eating due to the malocclusion. I decided on two-jaw surgery because of temporomandibular joint pain
2. Why I chose Iyoo Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery - While looking into famous university hospitals and oral and maxillofacial surgery clinics in Seoul, I saw many good reviews, and because I could watch surgery reviews in video form, I felt the director seemed trustworthy and reliable
Day 1 My face looked cleaner than I expected and wasn’t very swollen, which was surprising, and my throat hurt so much. My face was compressed, so it was very hard to breathe. I had no strength in my body, so I couldn’t do anything and just lay still, and I couldn’t sleep
Day 2 My face was more swollen than yesterday and felt puffy. It was so hard because I couldn’t sleep. I was on IV fluids so I wasn’t hungry, and I struggled to drink New Care with a syringe. I diligently did ice packs, and when it was time to be discharged I went home, but just like before, I couldn’t do anything, so I spent the day on the sofa
Day 3 My face swelled like crazy, throbbed, hurt so much, and it was really hard. My ears were also swollen and ringing, my head hurt, my nose was swollen so breathing was hard, my throat hurt, blood kept coming from my nose, and I worked hard to drink New Care just to survive. When the medication wore off, it was so hard, so I made sure to take my medicine diligently
Day 4 As expected, my face throbbed, and I kept waking up at dawn because it hurt. My head still hurt and my ears were ringing, so sounds seemed quieter, and it was hard. Still, I felt good because I showered today, and I diligently ate New Care, porridge, and yogurt
Day 5 Now the heat sensation has almost gone down, and the swelling is a little less than yesterday. A lot of bruising has come up on my face and neck. My nose opened up a bit, so breathing became a little easier, and now I can sleep somewhat. The ringing in my ears has decreased a lot too, and now my head doesn’t hurt. I also took a walk today. I’m so hungry and have no strength, so I eat everything I can
Day 6 Now the throbbing has almost gone down. I can feel myself recovering little by little, and the swelling is definitely going down. Sensation around my mouth is gradually coming back, so my lips and chin feel numb and tingly. If my face gets pressed, it hurts so much, so I just didn’t wear the compression bandㅠ Now breathing is comfortable and talking has become a bit easier, so I spent time talking with friends on the phone
Day 7 Today I went to the hospital, had my progress checked, and got disinfected. It hurt so much when my mouth was openedㅠㅠ It was my first time seeing the screws in my gums too, and it looked so gross. Starting today I also have to wear elastics, and it’s harder than I expected. Still, I can gradually see the swelling going down, so I feel good
2-week review
The swelling is visibly going down, but my cheeks are still very puffy and it’s still uncomfortable when I talk. I went to the hospital and had the stitches removed, and it hurt much more than I expectedㅠㅠ Still, moving my mouth has become easier, so my pronunciation has come back a lot. During week 1 it was so painful, but now it’s definitely more bearableㅎㅎ
I’m so happy now that the asymmetry, which was definitely my biggest source of stress, has been correctedㅠㅠ I hope everyone has a safe surgery!
