I’ve worn glasses since 4th grade, and my eyesight has been terrible since I was little,, (My mom is highly myopic, so I guess it’s genetic??) Then in 11th grade I wore contacts for the first time, and it was a whole new world! My eyes were tiny little beans, and suddenly they were huge! So from then on I ditched glasses right away and used disposable contacts for almost 10 years, but they were so expensive that I kept thinking I’d definitely get surgery someday. But they said I had to wear glasses for more than 2 weeks before the eye exam, and I just didn’t have the confidence to do that, so I kept putting it off. Then after another surgery I was forced to stop wearing contacts and wear glasses, so after being discharged I went straight to the eye clinic for the exam! My prescription in both eyes was around -7.5 and I also had astigmatism of 1.25, so of course LASIK and LASEK weren’t options, and I decided to get an ICL.
The director at W Eye Clinic seemed pretty conservative? They said they only do surgery on one eye per day without exception. Honestly, all the other factory-style hospitals do both in one day, so I was a little annoyed,, but I thought, they’ll probably be that much more careful and do a good job! So I went ahead with the surgery. The first day, was it my right eye? It ended up being surprisingly simple and I was shocked! And after the surgery I came out and could see right away,,,? Wow, this is amazing, I want to do the other eye right away too, so before the next day’s left-eye surgery they put in drops to dilate the pupil. But they said my pupil still wouldn’t dilate....... so they kept putting in drops until it finally did, and then went ahead with the surgery. The left eye took longer, and the director seemed a little flustered too, so I started to feel uneasy,, Still, they said the surgery went well somehow, and I went home!
But after a week, especially in my left eye, the ring phenomenon and glare in the dark were really bad... If both eyes were like that I wouldn’t know, but only one eye was like that, so I couldn’t help feeling really anxious So when I mentioned it at the follow-up, the director said it couldn’t be helped because of the difference in pupil size and that I’d have to monitor it.. So I waited, half believing and half doubting, and then without even noticing, maybe after about a month? the glare had suddenly decreased a lot! Very occasionally, when I pass through a tunnel or light comes in at a certain angle, I still see two lights or something like that, but it doesn’t interfere much with daily life!!!! Compared to having to wear contacts every day and carry them around whenever I went out, I’m ridiculously satisfied..
Anyway, the conclusion is that I’m so, so satisfied!! I keep thinking why I didn’t do it sooner.. And the clinic itself was very conservative, so before the exam I had to wear glasses for a long time, they did the exam many times, and it took a long time, but because of that, I feel like they really looked at each person carefully and operated within the safest possible range, so I’m completely satisfied!!! Honestly, it was quite expensive compared with other factory-style hospitals! But honestly, since we have to use our eyes for our whole lives, I hope everyone here thinks it through carefully and does their research before getting surgery!!
