Before before before / after after after Hello!
I had deep concerns about my jaw ever since I was young. In middle school, I heard someone say from the side that I had a protruding lower jaw, and I often heard things like, “You’d be fine if you just moved your jaw in a bit.” Honestly, I didn’t think it was severely serious, but after hearing comments like that often, I developed a habit of almost reflexively looking at my jaw first whenever I looked in the mirror. I tried hitting it with my fist and pushing it too.. I cried a lot because of my protruding lower jawㅠ
At first, another hospital (plastic surgery clinic) suggested double jaw surgery and facial contouring, but at that time the word “double jaw surgery” itself was so scary that I decided to do only contouring! I had chin tip + square jaw surgery, and about a year after surgery, when all the swelling had gone down, it seemed briefly better, but the fundamental problem didn’t go awayㅠ
So I became interested in double jaw surgery. Although I live outside the capital region, I tend to think important surgeries should be done in the metropolitan area, so because it was a major surgery, I looked into it with even more consideration for safety and expertise. Through YouTube, apps, cafes, etc., I carefully watched videos and read reviews of hospitals that people recognized, and among them, I had surgery at Y Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, which appealed to me the most!
It still feels vivid how I was trembling while lying on the cold operating room bed, but it’s already almost been a month~! After double jaw surgery, the same day repeats, so time seems to pass really quickly.. Before I knew it, I felt I had recovered, so I returned to my usual work, and I’m living very well without any disruption to daily life!
<Meals> I usually really like eating, and I especially enjoy crispy textures. After changing the wafer to removable, it was sad to have delicious food in front of me while chewing was restrictedㅠㅠ I think I tried to blend and eat as many different foods as possible! I wanted chicken so badly that I even thought about blending that too.. lol I only thought about it..!
When I wake up in the morning, I remove the wafer, gargle, and then eat. Even now at one month, I mainly eat porridge, and I ate soft rice mixed into any soup, or white porridge with crushed seaweed mixed with sesame oil + soy sauce, or with kimchi broth! I usually eat snacks with some time in between, but because I had to put the wafer back in, I ate snacks + meals all at once. For snacks, I often ate blended fruit (tangerines, bananas, apples).
Oh, if you soak wafers in milk, they’re soft and tasty! After the wafer became removable, in the beginning I was excited and ate a lot of bread soaked in hot milk too lol Chex Choco is surprisingly hard to eatㅠㅠ unless it’s very thoroughly soaked..
After some time passed and I got used to the sensation in my jaw, I ate steamed eggs, tofu, and ramen too. I practically swallowed themㅎㅎ.. Rice cake soup also goes down surprisingly smoothly.
<Pain, Sensation> The sensation in my left cheek seems to have returned quickly, but only now, close to one month, am I barely starting to gradually feel sensation in my jaw and right cheek. The philtrum still seems a bit far off..ㅎㅎ If I put it in numbers, maybe left cheek 80, right cheek 60, jaw 60, philtrum 50? There’s now absolutely nowhere that hurts, and nowhere uncomfortable either! Sometimes I hear a scraping sound from my jaw, and I keep imagining whether it’s the sound of bones rubbing against each other..^^.. I think maybe the bone hasn’t fused, maybe it’s unstable.. But since it’s only month one, I’m just accepting it. I think jaw sounds are something everyone who has had double jaw surgery experiences. Since it was a major surgery, I think it’s better and less stressful to wait with some patience! Our bodies are gradually healing, not breaking down..
<Swelling> The swelling... really... is not going down^^.. Especially the front cheeks and the bulldog-fat area? Is it called candy swelling? That area bothers me the mostㅠㅠ I think there is still a lot of swelling in the philtrum too! The chin tip too.. For swelling, I’m just going to watch it for at least 3 months.. In the beginning it went down steadily, so I found it fascinating and looked in the mirror and took pictures every day, but lately it’s plateaued, so I’m tired and barely look in the mirror lol Still, compared to day 6, the notorious phase, I feel like I’ve become human^__^!
Other inconveniences are that my ears sometimes feel blocked, the cheek flesh near my molars gets bitten often, and the depressed area inside my mouth that touches the screws sometimes throbs. It also tingles a little when I put on the elastics.. This is something I have to en~~~dure..ㅎㅎ
It’s not to the point of bleeding or being a major concern! And even that is only from the screw on the right side.. I think this too shall pass... lol
These are inconveniences I had to think of on purpose, and my body condition feels 90% of before surgery! I’m going for an outpatient visit next week, and I’m curious what I’ll hear. For those new double jaw surgery(?) people reading my review now, even if it’s so hard and you regret it now, one month passes quickly. Fighting!!
