Male, around my late 20s
I had 3-type facial contouring at ㅇㅇㄷ (a famous large clinic) about 3 years ago.
My review of the clinic: 1 out of 5 My review of the contouring surgery: 2 out of 5
The reason for the clinic rating is that the aftercare and response were all terrible. I went back to the clinic because of sagging skin, sunken cheeks, protrusion of the zygomatic arch, and my face looking like it had more facial fat. I had a few consultations, but that clinic did not seem to have any intention of solving those issues and felt like they were just trying to talk their way through it. The director who did my cheekbone surgery back then is no longer at that clinic. Also, because it was my first time getting plastic surgery, I was a beginner and had the consultation rather passively when deciding the design. Looking back after time passed, it feels like they over-resected my square jaw too much. I was living so busily that I do not remember well, but it was someone who was famous on YouTube for some teddy-bear concept.
My review of facial contouring: Whether you are male or female, I really recommend a place that does osteotomy as minimally as possible. Whether it is cheekbones or square jaw, becoming smaller absolutely does not mean you will automatically become prettier or more handsome. If you have no cheekbones and no square jaw, you look unattractive. Of course, if the cheekbones and square jaw are too large, that can also look unattractive. Just like a nose looks unattractive if it is too big or too small for the face, cheekbones and square jaw are not better simply because they are absent; it is about refining the degree. If you reduce the cheekbones, I think issues like cheek sagging are the most important. If you reduce the square jaw, I think submental/jawline fat and naturalness are the most important.
Starting with the square jaw: naturally, the jaw fat descends toward the neck side (the remaining area after osteotomy). -> This is easy to address with chin fat removal, muscle tying, lifting, etc. For the jaw, there are surprisingly many and relatively easy manuals for managing sagging skin. People may think differently about the price, but I personally think it is relatively affordable. But after resolving the fat with those methods, the jawline that becomes visible, and the standard for how natural a jawline is, is not clear. But by my standards, my jaw is unnatural. Nine out of ten people I saw who had facial contouring looked unnatural. I do not know what trend this is, but Koreans really like small jaws. But when you actually look at the people everyone follows around calling pretty or handsome, very few of them have small jaws. Their faces are just small; their jaws are not small relative to their faces. You cannot reduce the size of the face (including the head) with surgery..
The most serious thing about cheekbones is that the problems are all complex. First of all, as much as the bone is pushed inward, skin and muscle remain, and this is not a problem that can simply be solved by lifting and then living with it. The anterior cheek descends and the lateral cheek becomes hollow, and because these are all different areas, they cannot be solved all at once,, To compare it in my own way, the jaw is literally angular, but the cheekbone is spherical, so the soft tissue also descends in that same shape.
For people who turned out well, I can congratulate them and applaud them.
As for me, the writer, I have my own eye and standards for appearance, and I am sensitive, picky, and the type who knows a lot of miscellaneous information.
Conclusion = I do not recommend square jaw or cheekbone surgery. If you are going to do it, it is absolutely better to do it minimally and, to the extent that you are having bone surgery, also do lifting surgery or fat removal together.
That way, you do not lose B just to gain A, and you do not have to go hospital-shopping again to regain B. Shave only a little bone.. Tell them you prefer to leave some cheekbone or square jaw. The more you shave, the stranger it can look and the higher the chance of side effects.. Too much of anything is harmful. Do not shave too much because of the illusion that your face will become smaller ㅠ
