First, my current nose condition is: 8 years ago, I only had the nasal tip done with ear cartilage, and I was young and didn’t know anything, so there wasn’t a big difference. But once the nostril area got a bit smaller, my crooked nose became noticeable. I originally have facial asymmetry, on the severe side, and my crooked nose had always bothered me, so I had revision surgery this June. I had osteotomy, cartilage grafting (I honestly don’t know what this even is), septal cartilage nasal tip work, and alar reduction. I didn’t want osteotomy or alar reduction, and I asked them not to make my nose higher, but in the end they did the osteotomy and reduction, and my nose became a bizarre Pinocchio nose.. It was so hard that I genuinely wanted to die, and now, 6 months later, I’m looking into revision clinics. Originally, my nose had a bulbous feel, was on the larger side, and was high from the bridge to the tip, but maybe because of the osteotomy, the bridge seems lower than before ㅜㅜ And my goal was to correct the crooked nose, but it looks even more crooked than before… This may be because it’s high, but if before the degree of crookedness was something only I noticed, now it’s so crooked that anyone who sees it only talks about how crooked it is. I was so sick of it that I was going to remove everything instead of doing a revision, but removal had bigger risks than I expected, so while consulting with the three major removal clinics, I also started looking into revision clinics ㅜㅜ People said that if I’m going to do a revision, it’s better to go to another clinic rather than one of the three major removal clinics.. I’ll write the consultation details below.
1. One of the three major removal clinics It was the first clinic I went to, so I just said I wanted everything removed. They said if I remove everything, the result would be hard to predict, and for various reasons they recommended revision surgery. The consultation focused on lowering what is currently too high. They said it would be hard to fully correct the crookedness. Cost was 3.1 million for removal, 3.4 million for revision. (The director is originally known for prioritizing safety and scaring patients a lot before surgery.)
2. One of the three major removal clinics As soon as they saw me, they suggested total removal, slightly correcting the crookedness with the existing cartilage, and shaping the tip so it wouldn’t look bulbous. They spoke with too much certainty, so I trusted them even less. It felt like, you can solve what I’m struggling over this easily..? The reviews aren’t that good, so I’m not considering this place. Removal: 3.7 million
3. A clinic famous for removal and revision They showed me a lot of extreme cases, but I heard they have many brokers, so I’m not really drawn to them. They suddenly said my nasal bridge was low and suggested putting in AlloDerm. When I looked it up, apparently they commonly recommend AlloDerm. (I don’t want to become a pretty nose, so I have absolutely no intention of putting it in.) My concerns right now are that my nose is high, unnatural, and crooked, but they talked about putting in AlloDerm and lowering the tip slightly. It felt like the discussion couldn’t move forward without AlloDerm.. Unlike the two clinics above, they took a CT scan and caught that my septal cartilage was very thin. They said if I have more surgery, perforation could occur.. Of course they said they would operate carefully, but this made me wonder, since I’m leaning toward clinic 1: clinic 1 will also take a CT before surgery and do everything properly, right..? That made me worried. They looked inside with something like an endoscope and suggested doing deviated septum and rhinitis surgery together. The cost was roughly in the 5 million range.
4. A clinic I found through a community This place focused more on the crooked nose than on the high nose. They did a CT scan and endoscopy, and said my nasal septum is very crooked and thin. They said the surgery itself is not an easy case. (Clinic 3 said it was very easy compared with their own patients.) They said lowering it is not something that can be done simply by removing cartilage, and suggested reinforcing the nasal septum with costal cartilage and lowering the nose while correcting the crookedness… Costal cartilage was truly something I had never even considered, so when I said I didn’t want it, they said that even if it’s done by another method, I would eventually end up needing costal cartilage anyway.. They said other materials lack strength and would collapse ㅜ The mood was like, if you’re not going to use costal cartilage, it’s better not to have surgery; why have surgery just to improve a little, there should be a guarantee of definite improvement ㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜ They would use autologous costal cartilage, and the cost was 9.5 million..
I don’t even know which other clinics I should visit, and because everyone says completely different things, it’s become hard to use the consultations as reference ㅠㅠ My heart is leaning toward clinic 1, but the reasons I’m hesitant are: 1. People say that for revision surgery, a clinic famous for revision is better than a removal clinic 2. They didn’t take a CT, and they didn’t catch details like whether the septal cartilage is thin 3. I’m really worried because of what the last clinic said ㅜㅜ
