Nose Re-Surgery@rhino-redo

5-Month Removal Review

A review of simple silicone removal after 1n years. I only had silicone inserted without any further manipulation, so I think that was actually fortunate.

I had depressions, skin discoloration, and severe show-through, so I had it removed. Sometimes when I wasn’t feeling well, I had a slightly eerie sensation, maybe tenderness.

Actually, n years ago... around the 10-year mark, my nose color became a bit darkish? and there was a slight rotting smell from inside my nose, so I had a mental breakdown. But the clinic where I had the original surgery said there was no problem, and after about a month it got better, so I stopped looking into hospitals. Looking back, I think the show-through started gradually getting worse from then on. The hospital where I had it removed also said, though it may have been a coincidence, that it was a nose that should have had the implant removed exactly around n years ago.

At all the consultations I went to, they said that as I aged, it was time to replace the silicone, that it was indeed protruding, and that the shape of the nose had lifted slightly... At a few places, they said it felt firm, so they couldn’t say there was no possibility that contracture had occurred.

When I heard there was a possibility of contracture, I wanted to die, but still, rather than revision surgery... even if I got revision surgery again later, I decided to bet on the possibility of touching it as minimally as possible for now and just removed it. I think they removed as much of the capsule as possible? There was quite a bit. It wasn’t a clinic that advertises “complete removal!!” or anything, but they told me that for something this old, the capsule must be removed without question.

The contraction period started from the 1-month mark and lasted slightly for a few weeks. It felt clumped, stinging, and looked slightly lifted... But it was only to the extent that I could notice it, and it didn’t seem very strange to other people.

Even though it was done closed, maybe because of the subtle swelling in the nose, the columella looked more retracted inward, but it’s improving as the swelling goes down. (My columella was originally short and tucked inward.)

As for my nose, maybe because the pressure on the part of the skin that had been forcibly stretched to accommodate the protruding silicone was gone, the area that had lifted actually came down, and as the contraction period ended, the firm areas also disappeared. I’m scared to do a piggy nose, but my whole nose just feels soft.

As for cartilage repositioning, cartilage manipulation, and things like that, the clinic honestly explained it. They said that if there were areas compressed by the silicone, it would just be a matter of pressing them firmly to unfold them. They said it wasn’t anything special, but really just the basic next step after silicone removal. At some places, they still suggested tying cartilage, shaving the sides... things like that, but I just didn’t want to touch it more, so I didn’t do anything.

The depression startled me for a day after removing the splint, but it got better right away. I had also worried that my nasal bridge would be flat, but after about a month? I didn’t really care, and only a subtle mild piggy-nose vibe remained. Now that it’s around 5 months, maybe the cartilage that had been compressed is rising back up, and it seems even that mild piggy-nose phase has passed. I think I’m about 95% back to my original nose. (Actually, I don’t even remember my original nose...) Honestly, because I had it in for so long, I was really worried I’d get depressions or a trapezoid-shaped nasal bridge... but not at all.

People around me who have known me for over 20 years react like, “Huh, you had your nose done? But what did you remove?”.....

Early after removal... I was a bit depressed because my pores had stretched and been damaged over time, the round discoloration at the tip of the silicone didn’t go away, and the skin that had been stretched by the silicone had slight subtle discoloration. (Still!! I was so happy to have it removed.)

The human body is amazing... My pores gradually got smaller, the round discoloration is only visible on days when my condition is bad, and the discoloration in the silicone shape is now almost invisible. Maybe because my pores had been stretched, my nose used to be a total oil-producing country!!!! and had tons of whiteheads, but sebum has decreased a lot... Even when I wear makeup, foundation no longer disappears only from my nose ㅜㅜ My goodness.

When putting on or taking off clothes, if my nasal bridge gets rubbed hard, it still hurts like crazy. It throbs sharply for about half a day, so I become careful, thinking it’s still healing inside. There is no contracture at all.

I held out without drinking alcohol, then at the 5-month mark I drank about one bottle, and until the next day my nose had a tingling, stabbing sensation, so I was really nervous. I’m thinking of not drinking for the next year.

For the last few years right before removal, I couldn’t even wear sunglasses because I was afraid they would put pressure on my nose, so I used sports sunglasses made for Westerners where the weight rests on the cheeks. My nose is low and unattractive, but I’m so happy that I can now wear sunglasses comfortably. (Early after removal, there was still some pressure on my nose.)

Oh, and I’m not sure if this was because of the silicone, but until right before removal, my dry eyes had gradually gotten worse, and when I used my facial muscles while talking, tears would pool easily. This symptom also improved. Maybe because the glabella got lower....

Mentally, I feel so comfortable too... I’m not scared of meeting people. I think it was such a good decision to remove it and not touch it further, and I feel truly relieved.....!!
